Adventus Day 17
I had a really nice shave today with Gunpowder Spice from The Holy Black. It had a medium strength scent throughout, Old Spicey with puffs of black powder. Ghost Town Barber aftershave makes an interesting combination with it. The lather was slick and provided decent protection. The alum gave me an “A.”
Today’s satchel also had Barrister & Mann The Four Horsemen Plague aftershave and War shaving soap. I think I’ll keep these to conclude a future Midnight Stag run.
Merry Christmas Eve Eve!

Off of a tub, I would agree with your medium-strength assessment, but the spice and gunpowder always get my attention the way a stronger scent would. What was your take on the addition of black powder?

I liked it. It’s an interesting addition of a darker scent to counter the light citrus notes (black powder itself being charcoal, sulfur, and saltpeter). I think it is similar to how Twice As Spice’s cedar note popped out.

It is an interesting scent. I think it is a staple at The Holy Black, but perhaps Wholly Kaw has moved on from a similar interpretation of it.
