faintwhenfree@lemmus.org 3 days agoWhat governments should be requiring is, making bootloader unlockable and making firmware for all antennas, camera and buttons public. I think it’s too much to ask of any government.
That being said this Sanchar Sarthi app doesn’t look so bad at a glance. Looks like a okay ish attempt at giving population tools to fight identity theft and phishing/scamming with some questionable success. Also the app supposedly doesn’t collect any data.

Thought is good, but if life has taught me anything it’s that it’s only a matter of time until someone new takes over and uses it for their nefarious purposes. Forcing it is never a good option, it should be opt in

From my dealings with Indian govt, more likely they’ll abandon it at some point. But yes trusting a government is always a difficult task.
