Ahh so you did know some other chants. Yes it’s no secret there’s animosity between some Middle Easterners and the US and Israel. What’s your point with all this?
Samskara@sh.itjust.works 19 hours ago
Yes, those originate from Arab, Persian, and Hebrew speaking extremists.
The point is, Bob Vylan escalated the rhetoric in the English language surrounding Israel to a new level, not heard for other topics.
Calling for death is the opposite of calling for peace. It’s a call for more violence and war.

It’s also exactly what the leaders in Israel are doing and have done against the people of Palestine but I don’t see you going off about that. Guess supporting Islamophobia and genocide are more acceptable to you than calling for the end of one.
Samskara@sh.itjust.works 19 hours ago
I have called for the end of the war in Gaza for a long time. I have advocated for a two state solution and Palestinians to live a life in dignity, freedom, and prosperity for decades.
The current Israeli government makes terrible decisions. Ben Gvir and Smotrich are inciting and ordering violence on an unacceptable level.
Let’s remember how we ended up here. Arafat rejected the peace deal offered. The second intifada destroyed the peace camp in Israel. Olmert‘s offer was rejected as well. Hamas followed a policy of war instead of building a future for Gazans.

It doesn’t have to be extreme. It can be a call to end the genocidal apartheid oppression that has been Israel. But as I understand it he called for “death to the IDF”, and clarified it as a call for an end to the murderous gang of was criminals that is perpetrating Israel’s genocide. There’s nothing extreme about this. It’s about protecting people from the most extreme brutality.

It also depends on whether you take the word “death” literally, or simply meaning the end of. For example, when people say “death to America!” they aren’t necessarily advocating for the death of every single American, but rather the collapse of the United States in its current form.

It isn’t an extremist position to oppose the seizure of your grandfather’s home due the racist revanchism of an ethno-religious group.
Auntievenim@lemmy.world 19 hours ago
Yeah, war on fascists and genocidal freaks. Die with them if you want.

Unlike you, or the Israeli government, the rest of us realize that you can’t kill an ideology or a social problem by killing people - all of these songs, and the Bob Vylan chant, were what’s called a “metaphor”.
