Comment on Suggestions for speeding up Alt tech adoption, the GETTR way
iamtanmay@wolfballs.com 2 years agoOoooh, I keep learning so many new things on this site. Thank you my friend, I really really appreciate it !
You heard about the open source dev, who poisoned his packages for npm ? Color.js author ? He was protesting that he never gets paid to maintain, while huge companies make big $$ from his work. Github deleted his entire account and took over all his projects.......
Absolute fuckers

That's crazy. No I never heard about it. But if he didn't want them to use his code he could have made a license that said they needed to pay him money.

Its still his repo and code. He can make whatever change he feels like. Big Brother didn't like that, so they just stole his shit

git is decentralized though. Everyone can have a copy. I guess he doesn't technically have the right to edit Microsoft's copy. Definitely a reason to self host though. Fuck gates

Yes. I meant that even if he poisoned the copy on github, it was his repo, he had the right.
He did it to protest how big companies exploit open source packages to make big profits, but never give back to the maintenance or development of these packages.
Github really shot themselves in the foot. Github's existence depends on the open source work hosted there. Enterprise Github is a tiny fraction of there existence.
Good job telling open source devs to look elsewhere. So far, they had stayed even after Microsoft takeover, because there was no overt hostility from Github towards them. I think this really opened everyones eyes
