Comment on Nexstar's ABC affiliates will keep Jimmy Kimmel show off air for now

Ok, so what’s your next move, Disney? Because now effectively nothing has changed since you “brought him back on the air”.
Pull some shows from your affiliates, damn it.

They should make a national version of ABC and put it on Disney+ and Hulu for no additional charge. Replace any local segments with either game show reruns or ABC News Live simulcasts.
I actually agree that Jimmy Kimmel probably shouldn't be on the air, but I also think that if ABC wants to provide his program to their customers and viewers, they should be able to do so. I know it will probably be available next day on Hulu, but still.

Running a national version of ABC would cost them tens of billions annually, and anger their affiliates, who they depend on.

Billions? Why? It'd be online-only and be distributed through Hulu and Disney+. They already made streams for different genres on Disney+ so it truly can't be that expensive.

Because affiliates pay the networks a few billion a year. But even more juicy is the cable and satellite retransmission fee, which is paid to the individual stations and then a share is passed up to the network. Retrans fees are worth around $20bn a year.

Plus it would be justification for that next price increase after this one.
