Probably has nothing to do with the economic crash and housing crisis in 2008 where a fuck ton of people lost their homes and their everything. Probably weren’t preyed upon at their most vulnerable or anything like that.

Or the 30k ~ 50k people dead every year for the last three decades from gun violence. The equivalent of a major conflict every year never ending.
Or locking up more people than any other nation. Five percent of the world’s population but twenty percent of the world’s prison population.
Or a society of excess that has almost 25 vacant houses for every homeless person but chooses to allow people to rot on the streets as an example of what will happen if you don’t “conform”.
Or a society that has the largest military on the world by orders of magnitude that profiteers off of every conflict by doing things like arming both sides. Don’t forget overthrowing democratic governments to install fascist ones.
Or a society that produces more wealth inequality than anyone else (finally American exceptionalism) and then allows these people to control the government and make all the decisions to benefit them and their friends.
I could probably go on for a bit longer, but that is enough to chew on.
