maam@feddit.uk 1 day agoThe UK should not apply Australia’s affirmative vote system since the results are less proportional to what the voters actually voted. Anglophones should not be afraid of having more than one mp per riding since multi-member riding districts properly reflect the vote shares. You can go with 5-member ridings instead.
Proportional representation fairly represents 95% of the vote while first-past-the-post and the instant-runoff ranked ballots do not.

Single transferable vote doesn’t really solve any of the underlying problems. It’s plastering over them more than actually fixing them given that we’re changing the electro system I’d rather we actually fix the problem.

That’s not accurate to say as it’s gives voters the most sophisticated way of voting, prevents parachute candidates, increases accountability, in parliament and ensures 95% of the vote is counted instead of wasted.

It is accurate to say that it’s not as good as proportional representation because it isn’t as good as proportional representation hence the plaster over analogy.
