Ukraine was invaded, twice, with Russia as the aggressor. That isn’t Ukraine’s fault and they have every right to kick Russian ass as long as it takes for Russia to pull out or negotiate. Both will be politically painful so the war goes on.
And if you’re in a shooting war with Russia, who better to ask for weapons than the US? Even old outdated US equipment was designed to take on Soviet equipment so yeah you want them as friends to give your nation a fighting chance and prove to Russia and the international community that they won’t be pushovers.
And look at NATO. They are bumping defense GDP to 5%. Finland, Poland, Estonia and others are withdrawing from agreements that forbid the placement of anti-personnel mines. Even if this war ends tomorrow, nobody seems to think Russia will be satisfied for long
