Gradually_Adjusting@lemmy.world 23 hours agoMultiplayer online games used to allow you to self-host so there was no obligatory centralised server. The game need not be deleted, that was purely a business decision.

I remember when you could be a listen server or run your own ddedicated server using the freely available executable. Been a while since I’ve seen anything like that
