Sidyctism2@discuss.tchncs.de 5 days agohard disagree. arent we past the stage where we dismiss right-wingers as trolls? they are always “just trolls”, until there is enough of them to cause an issue for everyone. if they are on lemmy, that to me points towards them wanting to establish a community here. why? no idea. but it always starts with “just a few trolls”

To get attention…
Commenting on their posts to tell them they’re wrong, upvoting people who already have, or even downvoting the post is all “engagement” which shoves the problematic community down every one else’s feed. Even making those “community spotlights” fairly regularly.
I mean, you’re flat out saying you don’t understand, I’m putting effort in to help you explain why not to feed the trolls…
This isn’t new, this is basic internet literacy.

i dont understand why you label these people as trolls. to me they seem entirely sincere. and it seems to me like you just assume they are trolls because they are a right-wing minority, but thats the point: while they are a loud minority, they are seen as harmless trolls (even though i dont see a reason to assume that), once they get a critical mass going, everyone all of sudden realizes that they are actual nazis, and we got a nazi-bar situation on our hand. this happens again and again; ignoring never worked

I don’t see it as mutually exclusive. They gain a voice by trolling and rage baiting.
