Oh I’m well aware that it was “adapted” from a novel which was quite terribly written, they essentially tried to take from the novel which bastardized history while staying true to the real story which obviously makes no sense. Shogun is an awful fantasization of the story of Tokugawa Ieyasu, James Clavell is an idiot who’s books should have stayed dead. Rome is another terrible TV example of fictionalizing history when there is plenty of real content to take from.

I only ever read Shogun but I remember enjoying it.
Of course, what you call “bastardized history” everyone else calls historical fiction and I thought it seemed to do a good job of mixing history and fiction.
