Comment on Amazon has already made a Bond film – it cost $300m and is unwatchable

Whether you like them or not, I’ve gotten a pretty clear impression that Amazon is a bit of a hack of a studio. There’s always a clear sense of something essential missing.

It wasn’t always that way. When it started, Amazon had some neat ideas like having customers vote on pilot TV shows to indicate which ones should go to series. A lot of the pilots they didn’t pick up were pretty good.
They also bought the rights to the Expanse novels and did a great job making them into different TV seasons. They even took chances on some interesting shows like “The Peripheral” and “Moonhaven”.
The enshittification of Amazon Prime likely has a lot to do with paying for Bezos’ big budget pet projects like “wheel of time” “and Lord of the rings” sucking the funding out of other projects. I expect with the Bond franchise purchase, this will just continue to be a problem. Even with as much money as Amazon, there’s only so much you can throw around.

I disagree they did a great job with The Expanse. The first three series are better IMHO, especially series three. The Amazon seasons just feel like a loose collection of bottle episodes in comparison.

Yea, also it was an established show and from what I could tell they kept a lot of the production staff at least at the high levels. All they had to do was keep things as they were as it was clearly working well.
