Comment on Electoral politics doesn't get the job done
nomy@lemmy.zip 6 days agoSo you just glossed over everything in my original comment except the part about saving (food, money, medicine, anything) and owning a gun? I specifically said network with like-minded people. Community is the only way we’ll get through the next decade. If buying a gun is a financial hardship that’s fine, look for other steps you can take. Don’t just throw your hands up and say “no!”
People are going to have to learn to rely on themselves (and their neighbors) because infrastructure and public services days are basically numbered. Soon prices will start to rise for the most basic goods, people will reduce their consumption. They will “make do” or they’ll do without. Talk to your grandparents who survived the depression. Remember the covid toilet paper panic? That’ll be a fond memory.
You can dislike my message, I don’t care that much. I’ll even agree that everything you said should be done. However, my messages is meant for marginalized, radicalized individuals who are at very real risk of being exterminated. People who have the means and the mind to organize and resist.
My “queer hiking” club has already established second lines of communication and started spitballing what to do as things become progressively worse. This is real and I do not plan to get on the train willingly. Moving abroad isn’t an option, so this is what I’ll do.

You asked me for suggestions and then ignored them.

"First, I must confess that over the last few years I have been gravely disappointed with the white moderate. I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro’s great stumbling block in the stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen’s Council-er or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate who is more devoted to “order” than to justice; who prefers a negative peace which is the absence of tension to a positive peace which is the presence of justice; who constantly says “I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I can’t agree with your methods of direct action;” who paternalistically feels he can set the timetable for another man’s freedom; who lives by the myth of time and who constantly advises the Negro to wait until a “more convenient season.”

Cool. I’ve read what Dr. King has written. You still asked me for suggestions and ignored them. And the fact that you think Dr. King applies here when we are talking about mostly people of color suffering is ironic as fuck.

A .world mod who was so stressed about helping his queer daughter escape rising fascism he was suicidal now thinks he can dictate to people who weren’t able to escape and is unable to see how a relevant quote applies to him.
