Hey we have a long way to go but we’re far better than a lot of other states as regards our incarcerated firefighter teams. The pay is abysmal but more than other states, and with the help of nonprofit advocates we’re making real progress on getting them into real firefighter jobs once they’re out. Importantly, some are seeing themselves appreciated and celebrated for the first time in their lives, which is a step towards rehabilitation. Something that hasn’t been a part of the US penal system in general for decades.
