I just saw a Reddit thread about why people don’t drink alcohol. I don’t drink super often but
reasons why I should be sober indefinitely
- I have social anxiety and drinking is taking the easy way out by reducing the tension that automatically happens in social situations. I feel like my body loosens up and I can actually move and dance when I’m intoxicated. It’s weird. - the buzz is superficial. It’s not a deep, fulfilling kind of contentment, it’s just a mask - physical symptoms, like insomnia - alcohol doesn’t taste good - and it’s expensive - plus the body doesn’t like it - with each drink, I have less control over my ability to say no to the next - my most embarrassing moments have happened under the influence of alcohol - grandfather was addicted to alcohol and smoking, and I don’t want to turn out like that. His son, my dad, drinks wine everyday, and he becomes a bit of an idiot. I think this has to do with self-medicating because undiagnosed ADHD.
I’m going to download one of those sober apps, and use it as a conversation starter with new people, where drinking is involved. I think having a sense of achievement is one way to feel fulfilled in life, and this can be a little win.
End rant.
