Comment on There's fucking ads in board games now
NielsBohron@lemmy.world 3 days agoPathfinder 2 is sooo much better than DnD, especially if you want to GM any official campaigns/modules/one-shots. Paizo’s writing on their adventure paths make it so easy to just jump in and run a game or pilfer encounters and piecemeal a homebrew campaign
Plus, the character creation, ancestries, and classes are so flexible that you can play almost anything you can imagine without having to homebrew anything. You want play as the Rat King from The Nutcracker? Sure. A goblin sapper from Warcraft 2? Easy-peasy. You want to play as C-3PO? No problem. Christ, you can play as the fucking Velveteen Rabbit if you want.

Flexible sure but not exactly easy. There’s a lot of choices to make at every level and many of the feats have prerequisite, earlier feats so you functionally have to plan your entire expected progression up front.

You want easy? I got easy.
This is a deluxe version of a Tunnels & Trolls character sheet. You can actually fit a character sheet for T&T on an index card. It debuted around the same time as D&D and I still think it’s a better system just by being so simple.

But then I am much more about story-driven games than the minutiae of combat, so YMMV.

Meh, T&T is a bit too simplistic for my tastes. Was a good option for solo gaming back in the day, though.

They said they wanted easy.

That’s fair. I’d say it’s easier on the GM, but asks more of the other players
