- Comment on What is a game you can’t understand why its so popular ? 1 week ago:
It’s gotta be the Sims.
I recall playing 2 and 3, only occasionally, because every time I would set it up, I’d play for a day or even just a couple hours. Then I go do other things, or I sleep through the night. Then come back thinking “what was I even doing?” Before deleting the save and uninstalling the game.
I don’t understand the time investment in a fake family, trying to make positive changes in a Sims life, and it only makes me feel worse about trying to improve my own situation. I don’t think I would get the perspective of someone who thoroughly enjoys this.

I thought I would be one of the ones who hated it, but then I tried it.
I want to get the platinum on Playstation at some point, maybe before I bother getting DS2

I don’t believe hate speech should be protected speech, we’ve been following hate speech laws in Canada since the 1960s and as far as I’ve lived, the spirit of these laws strikes me as “my freedoms end where yours begins.”

Part of what I’d been struggling with is I’d gotten into game emulation as well as building up a library via Steam and GoG, and wasn’t 100% sure how using Linux might make using what I’m used to harder to use.
So what have I done so far to combat this? I’ve been putting my emulators on consoles.
I started with a 60$ Wii, and an SD card from a digital camera I hadn’t used since college (almost 10 years ago). After learning to set up a Wii/GameCube machine with some retro Nintendo emulators, I moved onto hShop for my wife and I’s 3DS’. Most recently, I learned how to put custom firmware on my old PS3 slim (thank god the manufacturer date was just right, else I’d be using Ps3hen)
So, I suppose since I’m not nearly as worried about emulation, Steam seems to be more compatible with Linux by the day, and I suppose I did teach myself about emulation on console, maybe I’m closer to jumping than I think

My laptop is still rocking Win10, and the moment they force it to update to Win11 against my wishes is the moment I jump to Linux, ready or otherwise.
But I know for a fact that Im not as patient with technology as Id like to be, and while I try to learn what I can and prepare myself for that leap, the only reason I haven’t just lept yet is because I still find the amount of information I need to know (or think I need to know) overwhelming.
- Comment on Why are people like my grandpa so against seeing the whole world and learning a different language? 2 months ago:
Maybe he doesn’t want to BECOME the immigrant
Is he Native American, by chance?
If not, I’ve got some news for him.

I looked at my backlog of Playstation and Steam games, and thought to myself: “I’m gonna buy No Man’s Sky again, turn on cross save, and port my 200+ hour save to Steam.”
I’m going through old exhibitions I missed over the last few years, and PC is the way to do it. Having spent about 12 hours on it yesterday, I’m pretty happy with my decision

- Comment on Happy birthday Anon 1 year ago:
My sister had a friend growing up that had their birthday in late December, and she recalls how much she hated having joint birthday/Christmas presents. She could see other kids get gifts for their birthdays and Christmas, why couldn’t she?
Now that my sister has a kid of her own, she’s determined to make sure the holidays and his birthday are completely separate, and I am completely behind her in that decision.

Yes
- Comment on How do I PS5? 1 year ago:
PlayStation has a feature where each account has a “primary console”. Games that are purchased on an account can be played by that specific account on any console, or can be played by any account on the primary console.
Everyone plays on the same console? Great, that should be everyone’s primary console. So offspring A buys a game on their profile, offspring B can play it.
If offspring A goes somewhere and logs into their account on another PS5 console, offspring A can download and play their game, but no one else can play it on that other console.
If offspring B plays a game on their account and creates a save, offspring A can’t log into their own account and mess with offspring B’s save.
