I’d prefer they were busy trying to remove trackers than swooping.
My friend works in outdoor lighting at certain events and recently worked on a major outdoor event. Some of the shiny treasure section went missing. Eventually, they worked out it was a magpie and it was the first time world wide a bird stole parts of the exhibit

Can we talk about the enshittifation of Lemmy. Where everyone seems to be calling everything enshittified?

Good news.
The less the better
- Comment on Steam is a ticking time bomb 5 weeks ago:
Lemmy has gotten to the point everything is getting classed as enahittification or whatever
It’s actually getting crappy being here
Like the whole section about macos. Apple constantly screws developers, and somehow, the author has seemed to blame valve lol. There’s a lot of reason lots of people don’t develop for Mac, and they’re mostly valid rather than political
- Comment on Mulch believed to be contaminated with asbestos found at a Melbourne playground 5 weeks ago:
There’s a lot of asbestos out there. They can’t really be expected to test literally everything for asbestos imho.
This is probably yet another case caused by the dodgy building industry
When I bought my house, I asked about asbestos, and the building inspector missed a lot of it, and the real estate agent claimed there was none. There was lots

The funny thing is that it seemed trump repeated his bs on the weekend.
So. He’s likely to get yet another lawsuit
- Comment on It's ok, we sigma now. 2 months ago:
Definitely a hacked/fake account lol
On an unrelated note, nothing screams dominance more than someone who gets their lifeprotips from a guy who needs to abuse women to get them to listen to him, and got arrested by the police. Sure seems the police are the alphas in this case lol.
And in the US, E Jean Carrol seems to have shown “President” Trump who is really in charge too
- Comment on States fucked again 2 months ago:
Absolutely…
Actually, my friends power AND Gas is offline still at the moment… Which goes to show that Electric really is the way forward regardless,
- Comment on States fucked again 2 months ago:
And some of the coal power plants were offline too, so anyone saying “good old reliable coal”, well, it is not lol
- Comment on 4K Blu-ray isn't dying despite Disney and Best Buy's efforts - it's more important than ever 2 months ago:
The big issue with Blu-Ray is that they kept adding new copy protection schemes to it breaking older players.
Streaming companies have also been screwing people recently too, so there’s a very real chance that piracy will just grow. But there is technically nothing special about Blu-Ray’s which can’t be done by streaming (provided they’re willing to use that much bandwidth)

Actually, I had this exact issue a year ago, had a rage fit, and bought a Mac. I hate Apple, but this was going way too far
- Comment on Plan Bee 3 months ago:
How would we be growing crops in hot or cold places? There are so many insects including ones that literally can survive in a vacuum. Plants would die anyway.
Why can’t insects work in space? In fact, since they’re self-reproducing, they’re actually a better option… Whereas the robots will break down. Insects are probably lower risk…
Insects have evolved for millions of years. They’ve already proven to be an effective machine.
It’s interesting research, but it is possible to have research with limited practical applications but which is still cool

I’m not sure why anyone watches the Oscars, or cares about them, unless you’re somehow involved.
So, whether or not he hosts them… Whatever.
Get Will smith to co host with Chris Rock, and thats the only time I might consider it.
- Comment on Switch 2 Allegedly Launches This September, According To An AI Company's Press Release 3 months ago:
Yeah… They do… But when they stop servicing them for free, they’re all going to fail rapidly. Apparently though, there are class action lawsuits.
They should recall them, but probably won’t
- Comment on Switch 2 Allegedly Launches This September, According To An AI Company's Press Release 3 months ago:
Nintendo has screwed their customers around so much I’m no longer interested. The constant sequels of games with the same characters also gets meh.
I’m surprised they haven’t been sued for all the joycon drift .
I don’t own a switch or a steamdeck, but my next handhold will definitely be a steamdeck (hopefully a v2)
- Comment on Why Linux is Best for Most People 4 months ago:
A lot of these points are assumptions…
That being said, if there was GOOD android integration baked in, and Android App store baked in, it would actually make a huge difference I think. Because thats the competition…
Waydroid still has some major issues unfortunately.
This would bring in lots of high quality apps (including ones missing like Whatsapp or Messenger), and ultimately do what Steam for Linux did for Linux Gaming.
- Comment on What’s next for Mozilla? 4 months ago:
Which distro’s though?
Oracle is literally marketing against, and attacking Redhat directly: support.oracle.com/knowledge/…/560992_1.html
I think it is directly related to Oracle, as Oracle literally is just RHEL, with cheaper support (which they can afford to do, because their development costs are tiny compared to RHEL, if they just copy the code every release).
The others I’ve seen used it as a base, but aren’t really competing in the same way. CentOS also wasn’t providing commercial support… Either is Fedora. Commercial / Enterprise support is how Redhat makes money. And that’s how Oracle is planning to make money too
Also, what is wrong with IBM? I don’t recall them doing anything bad for open source. they fought SCO, and have contributed a lot to the community
- Comment on What’s next for Mozilla? 4 months ago:
You’re welcome.
By the way, not sure if you’re a linux user, but if you were wondering why Redhat is locking down the source code a bit, its probably thanks to oracle too. Oracle Unbreakable Linux was basically a recompile of Redhat (and I’m guessing they just charged less for support, changed branding and added a few more things).
So Oracle is also screwing over Linux now too.

Pretty much… Mitchell baker gets paid 7 million.
That being said though, just to play devils advocate, she was there since the beginning apparently (at Netscape). So, she actually seems to somewhat deserve it. And she’s well educated too and I get the impression she’s also a good person too
Whereas, you look at the Oracle CEO, and she’s what you expect (donates a lot of money to the right wing, banker, etc)
- Comment on The march towards an all-EV future hit a major roadblock. What went wrong? 4 months ago:
That’s part of the issue. In my case though, I easily spend more than $5500Aud on petrol a year. And especially due to all the new battery tech being released like sodium ion, and an increased number of second hand cars, prices will likely rapidly drop and range will rapidly increase too

Cool, so we can pay royalties to other crappy companies who benefit from their Blu-Ray Patents.
I agree many streaming services suck, but, the Blu-Ray standard is a much bigger suckfest (especially considering all the people they screwed with newer copy protections and such)

- Comment on SUVs emit more climate damaging gas than older cars do, study finds 6 months ago:
I own a jeep Unlimited… And, I don’t get why people give a crap about whether they are using petrol. I’d happily switch if a 4wd was released which was affordable and had sufficient battery.
The only real reason I have a 4wd is because I do a lot of hiking in my free time (and I got this cheap as it was 10 years old). If I wasn’t hiking though, I’d move back to my Toyota Echo Hatchback. That thing was SO easy to park, cheap to drive, and so reliable and safe.

I have no problem with this. Honestly, as others have said, here in Australia, tired of seeing dumped canisters, and it is clear that its a problem which is growing out of control, and its a problem which companies are exploiting for profit.
