Wow. Some of that announcement was serious buzzword salad.
In concept, as a fan of WoT, I’m definitely interested. And this is a use of AI I feel is not terrible. But a subscription? Probably not gonna work for me.

My wife and I watched the movie Players and enjoyed it. It’s a rom com and delivered on doing that well enough.
I also finally finished season two of Invasion. I’ve really enjoyed this show and am looking forward to season three. I found the finale of S2 to be satisfying (and sad), and I’m hoping season three keeps up the good storytelling.

We watched the first episode today. It wasn’t exactly what we expected. I guess I expected they’d be more, able or prepared than they seem to be going in so far, but I liked how they were just trying to figure shit out.
So based on one episode, I’m still interested in the story

My wife and I are excited to watch this!

My wife thinks it’s because so many people watch tv while scrolling their phones or tablets. Either way it’s a modern film convention that I do not like.

TV
-
I’ve slowly been working my way through Invasion (Apple TV+). I’m really enjoying the show the aliens are interesting, and the characters (for the most part) are well written and acted.
-
My wife and I together have been enjoying Death and Other Details. We love a whodunnit, so we’re in for that alone, but I’m also enjoying some of the storytelling motifs they’re using, and the set is really beautiful.
MOVIES
-
Self Reliance. Decent movie, but I thought it was going to be more humor forward than it was. Best part of the movie was the ninjas
-
Role Play. Like Self Reliance, was expecting a more humor forward story. It was a fine movie overall, but also kind of disappointing.
One thing I will say about TV and movies in general though, is that I HATE how we see a scene where something significant happens, and then less than five minutes later they show a flashback of that scene. FFS, I’m watching the show/movie, and I remember this thing that happened mere minutes ago. I’m not that stupid that you need to replay it again.

- Comment on What is an average person living in the US supposed to do about corporations raising prices? 10 months ago:
Again, I agree, but also disagree.
I agree that using a budget can help people make their money work better for them.
The issue is that people can’t budget their way out of not having enough money to cover basic living expenses. No amount of sitting around and trying to allocate money you don’t have to cover expenses you have to pay will make that money magically appear.
And yes, people under constraints can and do do hard things every day. But it doesn’t always work out like it did for your parents. Investing limited resources into moving is a big risk that isn’t guaranteed to pay off.
I’m not saying you don’t have good points. You do. I don’t know if you mean it this way, but your comments make it seem like you’re taking difficult, multifaceted problems and reducing them down to, “Just make a budget and if that doesn’t work, just move.”
That oversimplification is just as unhelpful as the suggestions like “steal” that you’re criticizing.
- Comment on What is an average person living in the US supposed to do about corporations raising prices? 10 months ago:
I mostly agree with you, but I think it’s, disingenuous to suggest people under financial hardship can just up and move. Moving is a huge burden in both time and money. It also doesn’t consider finding new job(s), uprooting a family, and that while moving to a cheaper area to lowers cost, it generally also lowers wages.
It’s also disingenuous to suggest everyone has $50-$100 a week they can spend on food. There are lots of people who don’t have $50-$100 a month to spend on food.
The people who are suffering most under these economic conditions are the people who have the least ability to take themselves or their money elsewhere.
- Comment on what do y'all actually host? 10 months ago:
My server is a pc I built maybe 8 years ago for YouTube streaming back when I still ran my channel. It’s running Ubuntu server 20.04, but I’m planning a rebuild soon with an upgrade to whatever is the latest lts when I actually do the rebuilt. Currently hosting via Docker
- Portainer
- NGINX proxy manager
- Jellyfin
- Navidrome
- Kavita
- Audiobookshelf
- Matrix (synapse, but moving to dendrite when I rebuild)
- Mealie
- Baserow
- Homepage
- Ntfy
- Seafile
I’d really like some kind of google docs replacement. I used to run Nextcloud and tried adding OnlyOffice Document Server probably half a dozen times and it never worked for me. Documents created wouldn’t sync, couldn’t be edited from another machine, and generally just failed at the basics of providing a server based document solution.
- Comment on Is "True Detective" season 2 bad, or just bad compared to season 1? 1 year ago:
I must be an outlier because I was pretty let down by the conclusion of season one. To be sure the build up was great, but that ending was so predictable and disappointing that I haven’t bothered with subsequent seasons.
Not as much of a let down as season eight of GoT, but it still tainted the whole season and show for me.

I’m glad for you!! That’s great. I’m fortunate as well. I work 4 days (10 hours) so I typically have three days off and my boss usually gives me at least two in a row.
Even with that, I still often burn one day off just recovering. This oligarchy late stage capitalism is bullshit.
- Comment on Major 4-day workweek study suggests that when we work 5 days we spend one doing basically nothing 1 year ago:
How is this a surprise? The detachment people have from the reality “on the ground” is infuriating. Try working a job you hate for shit pay for 71% of your entire fucking week and then just bounce into a weekend (assuming you even get two days off in a row) with all the energy to “do stuff”.
ffs. Assholes.
