big fan of Hulshult’s work on IDKFA, DUSK and Prodeus. Would love to see them directly involved with DOOM.

Appreciate the insight

I’d be telling if later iterations of idtech (should it continue to develop) switch away from Vulkan on desktops.
Would be a difficult move considering how ruthlessly performant it is.

God damn I didn’t expect to ever see that again. Brill

Kind of sad how the proprietor of DirectX owns one of the best Vulkan API game engine implementations in the industry.

That’s a fair point. I’m using the first party power supply but I could experiment with several others.

You’re right. There is on the raspberry pi forums, I’ve chimed in on the past, will need to check back in with it.

That’s my hope, as mentioned elsewhere I’m still awaiting uboot uprates for broader OS support, so I guess I’m fine to hang on to it.
Perhaps I picked this up a little early, though it has been fun to tinker and benchmark with.

No problem at all. I can try to measure this with a socket wattmeter I have lying around.
The power implications aren’t likely to he a deal breaker, but I do love the idea of operating an application server at approx 7W (that said, the same power envelope is also achievable on certain x86-64 home server platforms now).

This sounds promising, thank you for the info

That’s not a bad idea. I can give that a try for sure. I’m guessing the power implications here are minimal as well?

I’m glad it’s working for you. I’m wondering if my issues will be resolved in the future by firmware upgrades (also holding out for uboot updates anyway). Not giving up on it just yet.

I deeply regret my pi5 purchase. Here I was hoping to use it as a low power application server but I cannot get Ethernet workind reliably after a hot reboot. Seems to be a distro agnostic issue, though I acknowledge this could be a part failure.

I get you but that’s not what the commenter above is looking for.
I know the Index is fantastic and I’m truly happy for you, but I can appreciate other people being in the market for high fidelity VR with a substantially lower asking price (along with a lower total cost of ownership as a standalone system).
We can’t let meta pull ahead in this industry unchecked, and I really hope Valve (or literally anybody else) can step up to this segment in the near future.

They’re thinking of something that can work unteathered to a PC, like the rumoured valve deckard system

There’s been a resurgence of retro throwback shooters. The first one I noticed was with STRAFE, which released (to a rocky start) back in 2017. It’s a brilliant game now, mind you.

I’m sure I’m missing some great ones from this list.

Ah. I don’t think they can explicitly block playing from HDD, so you still can but YMMV, and I wouldn’t recommend it.

I’m not sure when the 2.0 update hit, but if you were playing 1.63 yesterday, I would encourage you to try 2.0 today

- Comment on MMO mouse recommendations? 10 months ago:
I would check the mice that are compatible with Piper. I believe Logitech have a MMO style mouse with 12ish side buttons on the support list but I would need to double check.
With that said, Logitech have been known to use shitty mice switches in some of their G series mice. I had to resolder my G903 buttons, though I took the opportunity to make other modifications (larger battery + glass skates). I don’t believe these mice support Bluetooth simultaneously with their proprietary 2.4 protocol either, so that might be a bit of a deal breaker, though I personally am not too keen on BT for wireless peripherals.
