OK cool, now if only you had a ship to go get the asteroid so you could make a ship. My last point still stands though, if it were really that easy…

Raw material, I would imagine. I don’t remember exactly how replicators work in the Star Trek universe, but they either rely on energy, a raw base material, or both. You can’t create something out of nothing so you would need a significant supply chain to produce your fleet.
If it were that easy, every rogue organization in the galaxy would have already done it before you.
- Comment on Just finished season 2 of Star Trek: Prodigy--it is absolutely criminal that paramoun (or CBS or whoever) cancelled it 4 months ago:
56 here, I discovered and was blasting through first season last Summer when I realized that was the only season so far so I started pacing myself… and then all the crap came down about it being cancelled and I was flabbergasted. I mean yeah it’s an animated series, that doesn’t mean it’s ONLY for children. Hell look at how many animated shows Star Wars has and I would never expect something “Bad Batch” to be marketed as a kids show. Prodigy feels more like DS9 to me, showing the really dark side of the Federation and things that slip through the cracks, it’s not the typical show where everything gets wrapped up in the last five minutes and you move on to the next episode, and I really love that. Hopefully it will get picked up for more seasons but meanwhile I’m taking my time going through the episodes.

There was a brief outage soon after I left that last reply, assume you were doing another round of maintenance at the time, but otherwise it’s still looking good from here.
- Comment on Version update and server upgrade! 5 months ago:
Ah! It looks like it JUST fixed it, I had checked about 15 minutes ago and still couldn’t get my subscribed list to load, but it does appears to be loading up now. I’ll reset my preferences and keep an eye on it through the day – hoping for the best!
- Comment on Version update and server upgrade! 5 months ago:
All of this sounds like the issue is related to the new server still loading up the communities. I’m subbed to a pretty good list so it’s probably best just to wait for the server to catch up. Thanks for the info though!

That’s the same error I was asking about below, and wondering if I had to do with the current status of collecting all the content. If so, it sounds like it could be another day or two before we can view our front pages again?
- Comment on Version update and server upgrade! 5 months ago:
Does this have anything to do with the front page giving an error message? I get a lemmy server error, however I was able to log out and log back in again, and I can get to the communities page which got me back to this discussion, but even forcing a browser refresh of the front page continues to give an error message for me. FYI, ctrl-shift-R also fails, I’m not sure what else to try.

Wow the new server is just flying along!
- Comment on Migrating images to object storage, images will be inaccessible for a bit 5 months ago:
Wow that’s depressingly slow! My previous file server would transfer at around 75MB/s (not minute) and I thought that was pretty bad. Hopefully you can figure out where the bottleneck is at.

It’s also lighter weight and thus cheaper to ship… But they promised that you totally couldn’t tell the difference in taste to food products! (Everybody could tell the difference)

And to think of how mad everyone got when everything was packaged in those ‘heavy’ glass bottles and jars, and manufacturers started putting everything into plastic because the glass was creating too much litter on the roads. Now here we are 30 years later and everyone is being killed by plastic.

Also in this model, the sun and moon cannot be seen in the sky at the same time, except during an eclipse. And the stars never change through the seasons, they are fixed points that look the same no matter where you are at on Earth.

SPOILER ALERT: This story discusses major plot developments in Season 5, Episode 1 of “Star Trek: Discovery,” now streaming on Paramount+.
Guess I won’t be reading this until after I get a chance to watch the episode.

… and just hope nobody else notices? 😆 I figured something was going on and it would be back shortly, but I also know sometimes servers do thing that admins weren’t aware of, figured I would just check in.
- Comment on Expected instance downtime for upgrading pict-rs 10 months ago:
Does this have anything to do with the issues earlier today (maybe 9-10 hours ago)? After several failed attempts to open new messages or reload the page, I got a message stating that the server was rebooting, and a couple minutes later everything was working fine again.

Yeah once I figured out the characters it seemed pretty obvious it was geared towards a younger audience, but I still like the show. I think my interest is mainly in it being the grittier side of the Star Trek universe where not everything is all hunky-dory. DS9 certainly had that feel to it.

I didn’t even know about this show until news came down about it being cancelled… Figures. I started watching it and already like it more than Lower Decks. Really hoping they find a new home!

Oh god, “Once More With Feeling” was the first musical TV episode that stuck with me. So much passion in that episode and it brought to a head so many issues the characters had been dealing with up to that point. It still stands out as my favorite episode of the entire series.
Guess I’m going to have to rewatch this episode, I missed the bunny reference!

Every single time I see him show up! Dude looks way more like Carrey than he looks like Shatner.
