- Comment on People who order "a decaff coffee with an extra shot" - why? 11 months ago:
That’s interesting to know, thanks! Most coffee shops where I live would probably never get busy enough to use a spare shot. Perhaps they change out to a single shot portafilter, but I’ve never noticed.
- Comment on People who order "a decaff coffee with an extra shot" - why? 11 months ago:
Follow-up question - each portafilter is two shots right? So if you end up adding an third shot to a coffee, what do you do with the leftover fourth one?
(Or do you have a smaller, single shot portafilter?)

- Comment on How do you moderate yourself? 1 year ago:
Yeah I guess that’s my take on ‘gamifying things’, but there’s probably a few different ways to do it. I’ve heard that in psychology, rewards are a lot more effective than punishments - so maybe frame it slightly differently. Personally I wouldn’t base things on how well you do in the game, because that could get frustrating - in the worst scenario you’ll already be annoyed at doing poorly in the game, and that’s followed by having to do more work. Instead I’d spin it, so if you do all the tidying reward yourself with an hour of gaming. If you get all your chores done, you get 2 hours of gaming etc.
- Comment on How do you moderate yourself? 1 year ago:
I agree with what others have said about gamifying life. For example, ‘oh it’s 5pm, I need to spend 30 minutes doing some tidying before I can play a game again’. And for games with no clear end point, set yourself goals so you know when to take a break. ‘Once I’ve built this factory, I need to take an hour’s break before I can play again’.

What sort of things would you try to gain knowledge in?
- Comment on How can I become a better conversationalist? 1 year ago:
I hadn’t heard of that before - looks like they have some clubs in the UK so I’ll investigate. Thanks!
- Comment on How can I become a better conversationalist? 1 year ago:
What do you mean by active listening exactly?
- Comment on How can I become a better conversationalist? 1 year ago:
Thanks for the insight - I hadn’t considered that announcing the silence in that way could be useful, but I see what you mean.
- Comment on How can I become a better conversationalist? 1 year ago:
Yes I think you’re right - sometimes I’ll feel like I need to fill a silence, and end up spewing out nonsense. Then I’ll feel embarrassed and struggle with the rest of the conversation. It’s quite hard to un-learn that feeling of silence being uncomfortable, but it would definitely give time to help me think.
- Comment on How can I become a better conversationalist? 1 year ago:
I think I’m quite good at asking questions, but when it comes back the other way my mind often goes blank. It could be that I don’t perform well under pressure, so maybe I need more practice with that. Speaking slowly is a good suggestion - I find myself speaking way too fast when I want to get a point out.
- Comment on How can I become a better conversationalist? 1 year ago:
I’ve had a quick look into that, and yes that does provide some good pointers for general questions to get a conversation going. What should I do if I’m the one being asked those questions and I’m floundering though?

- Comment on Most trustable hair shampoo company? 1 year ago:
Thanks for the heads up :) The same brand does a conditioner that is silicone free, so I’ll try that out
- Comment on Most trustable hair shampoo company? 1 year ago:
Thanks for this! Do you reckon a product like this (Sukin Natural Balance Shampoo) would be ok? It claims to be sulfate and paraben free
- Comment on Most trustable hair shampoo company? 1 year ago:
I’m not sure what you mean by this question, but while I’m here can anyone recommend a shampoo/conditioner brand that won’t dry out my hair? I have quite thick hair for context.
- Comment on Rishi Sunak says people ‘can’t be any sex they want to be’ in new swipe at trans community 1 year ago:
Ignorance? I’m well aware of the methods you’ve suggested, I was just wondering what exactly you were referring to when you said ‘fight for them’, and what you consider to be the most effective method.
Unfortunately I don’t think it’s as effective as you think (at getting people to give into demands). Thousands of people protested after Liz Truss’ resignation asking for a general election last year. Rishi isn’t going to call a general election any earlier than he needs to because he knows the conservatives are likely to lose. That said, yes I do think protests are a good way to drum up support and encourage people to vote. Despite what you may think, voting is important.

- Comment on More than half of UK children do not read in their spare time, survey reveals 1 year ago:
My childhood experience was very similar - pop to the library and stop off at the café. The local library near me was a beautiful old rectory building covered in ivy and thankfully it’s still open.
It’s extremely sad to hear about the closures. Funding cuts can be so short-sighted…
- Comment on More than half of UK children do not read in their spare time, survey reveals 1 year ago:
I remember my local library having reading challenges when I was younger. You’d fill out a little pamphlet with stickers for each book you finished. It was great fun! Do they still do similar things?
I think if my parents hadn’t taken me to the library I wouldn’t have been nearly as interested in reading.
- Comment on Waitrose offers police free coffees to deter thieves 1 year ago:
It has also trialled what it called “love bombing” in some of its stores - being extra attentive to customers, including asking if help is needed at self-checkouts, to act as a potential deterrent.
Wow. Now when someone asks if I need help at a self-checkout I’ll wonder if they think I’m trying to steal something!
- Comment on Is there a way to prevent mixed cereals from separating? 1 year ago:
That’s actually a very simple solution that I imagine would be pretty effective!
It leads me to wonder - is the granular separation more pronounced in a horizonal section (where you’d have more surface area for particles to fall between) or a vertical section (where gravity would have a greater effect)?
- Comment on How much did photography "stole" painter jobs ? 1 year ago:
I feel like people will still continue to draw/paint etc. for the enjoyment of it but perhaps it will be a less viable career choice. Current artists will feel more and more pressured to incorporate some level of AI generation into their process, before they become overtaken by those who have adapted. That could start out as people using AI generated textures or backgrounds within their art for example.

If anyone knows where to buy muesli ingredients in bulk in the UK I’d be interested to hear!
- Comment on Is there a way to prevent mixed cereals from separating? 1 year ago:
Yes I guess that would help, as long as I don’t over shake it and cause the same problem in the opposite direction
- Comment on Is there a way to prevent mixed cereals from separating? 1 year ago:
Having the ingredients in individual containers is a good idea! However I usually buy a pre-made muesli mix and surprisingly it seems to work out very cheap compared to buying the individual ingredients (unless perhaps I was to buy them in bulk somewhere). I’m not sure I can beat £2 for 1kg of muesli from Aldi. It’s convenient too, but then I run into the separation issues of course.
