Omg lol. My condolences, but also I love that your dad was like … You’re too curious. I’m sorry.
That is hilarious.

Everyone is saying you’re doomed but I think it’s salvageable as long as you are very good at setting boundaries and keeping to them.
Do not encourage his oversharing, do not offer too much advice as that will only draw you in. Do not allow anything that would overstep the line, this includes him saying things like “You’re his type”.
If he says something like that again the simplest non-confrontational response is something humorous that clearly points out the line he’s trying to cross.
Something like “Well that’s awkward…” Or “What a strange thing to say…” “Yeah that’s way over my pay grade…” Say it jokingly and laugh, so things stay friendly, but you have pointed out the line instead of your nervous laughter sounding like agreement.

I’m so sorry that’s happened to you. My husband works for a smaller company providing services to the mining companies. A few years ago he asked me if they should sponsor someone employed there.
I told him yes, that we had a responsibility to look after people trying to do the right things and make a life here.
Unfortunately it is far too common for companies to take advantage, forgetting that these are people with lives.
I hope you find a great position with good people who value you. ❤️

Accurate. My husband works in the mining industry and it’s … Painfully common for highly intelligent engineers that speak 4 languages to be treated like shit because their employers hold the key to their citizenship. It’s fucked.
They get 6 month contracts and are never told until the last minute if their contract will be extended and if it isn’t then they have very little time and even less savings to get a new job before they are breaking the rules of their visa and get deported.
Most places don’t rent to them either, so they were often stuck in shitty apartments run by slum lords.

Ah yes, I should have been clear, these are filter lists you can use with ublock which is what I did.

I use two lists and have noticed a huge difference.
github.com/…/uBlockOrigin-HUGE-AI-Blocklist
github.com/…/Super-SEO-Spam-Suppressor
One removes ai slop, the other removes all the junk websites. Like when you search for reviews of a watch and end up with endless pages of “top 10 watches of 2025!”
I also changed my default search engine to google.com/search?q=%25s&udm=14 which removes the ai overview crap. (For now.)

You know that quote “Blood is thicker than water”?
The entire quote is “The blood of the covenant is thicker than the water of the womb”.
We found our family, and that bond is as strong as any blood.

It’s also one of the few nights of the year where entire neighbourhoods get together, meet each other. Families get dressed, make costumes, go door to door.
We set up tables and chairs on our front porch here in Brisbane, and have tacos or pizza while we watch Halloween movies and wait for trick or treaters.
We hang out with parents, hand out bottles of water, some candy, and I prefer giving out some useful treats like themed pencils, erasers, this year we gave out stickers for potion bottles, so when kids get home they can clean out an old jar and make cool potions to decorate for next year.
It is the only time a year when we see all of our neighbours and I would say it is the one holiday we all feel most connected.
- Comment on Happy American import day 6 months ago:
The Halloween celebrated in the UK is literally just kids getting dressed up and going door to door for free candy. They have been doing that in the UK for hundreds of years before the US started doing it when Irish immigrants brought it over.
This isn’t some whacky theory dude, it’s fact.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trick-or-treating#Guising
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Halloween
No one is saying the modern Halloween is meant to be a Celtic tradition, it’s just a bit of fun.
It’s also probably the least commercialized holiday as well. You buy some candy and put the porch light on, or don’t and leave the porch light off.
Get a costume, or throw something together, grab a pillowcase and off you go.
It’s a far cry from Christmas, Easter, Valentine’s Day, etc. which are far more commercialized worldwide.
- Comment on Happy American import day 6 months ago:
Halloween has been celebrated in the UK and Ireland for hundreds of years, and the Irish brought it to America.
There has been dressing up and going door to door for hundreds of years too, and even jack o lanterns have been around for ages.
The holiday is much more a UK thing than it is an American thing, it’s rather surprising actually that it’s not as much a thing in Australia…

I am a disability support worker, and can absolutely attest that depending on the injury level and their age/muscle tone, something as dumb as pushing them sideways a bit can dump them on the floor.
Hell, the young ones do it to each other to be jerks lol. I’ve joined a stadium full of people teasing one of my clients for not wearing his seatbelt because he fell out of his chair with an epic splat after being bumped.

Wait, this is going to be a Funcom game?? Oh man, Funcom has made some of our favourite games! We adored Anarchy Online, and The Secret World is still one of the mmo’s I would recommend to anyone who wants to try a really unique modern mmo with an amazing story.
Unfortunately when they were developing TSW and Age of Conan, someone made the call to go all in on AOC which was just… not unique in a space saturated with that kind of WoW clone.
TSW ended up not having the cashflow (devs) it needed to release updates and expansions and it fell into disfavour once the player base reached end game. Which is really sad, because even as a “dead” game the story and gameplay are so good.
I really hope they have retained the devs that worked on TSW and have enough cash to push everything into this game. Make it unique like TSW and AO were, push a couple expansions, and there will be players.

What an odd take.
10 years for the children to be able to fend for themselves? Assuming you are married before the first pregnancy, then have a full term birth at 40 weeks, then wait 12 months before the second birth that would put the first child around … 8 when this hypothetical “ideal” marriage dissolved, and subsequent children even younger.
Which wouldn’t make sense at all from an evolutionary standpoint, finding another man to step in as a father is not easy, so much so that there were laws around the care of widows in most societies.
The average marriage duration is only 7 years? Seems its nearly double that here in Australia. I also have two 18 year olds living at home who say they desperately want independence but also don’t want to get a job or do dishes, and have the sexual maturity of a potato.
I don’t think we are “meant to” have any particular relationship type or length, humans are far too diverse for that.

Love is not a thing that happens to you, love is an action. Love is a conscious decision, made every day. Love is work.
I once read some research done on marriages and love and what predictors there are for a marriage failing.

I love going to the movies, but they have got so expensive and the snacks are insane, it doesn’t feel like a little luxury we might indulge in every month or so, but like a large luxury we might do twice a year.
We live in Australia where wages are generally higher if that adds any context.

Aww, you’re adorable. I will buy the games closer to Christmas for everyone, my reading tells me that if I buy the game and the person does not accept the gift then they will give me a refund, so I imagine you won’t get the money until everyone accepts.

This looks perfect for when everyone is over on Christmas eve! <3
