It’s more ironic than satire. Parker Brothers has absolutely used their power as a large game publisher to squeeze out smaller competitors.

It’s the Law of Diminishing Returns and has been studied extensively.
- Comment on Monopoly 1 week ago:
Monopoly is literally capitalist propaganda. Parker Brothers basically stole the game from its creator and then offered $500 for the rights. They modified the game to be more focused on owning everything.
Cautionary Tales has a great episode about Lizzie J. Magie and how she originally created the Landlord’s Game.

A single central tower is a really cool concept! I generally don’t like tower defense games because I get overwhelmed with bouncing around and managing multiple towers.
I’ll try the prologue next time I game. Thank you!

What are you talking about? It’s super easy to gaslight someone. You’re clearly wrong. Why even make that comment?

I still need to understand everything. My thirst has only grown over the years. I cultivate my curiosity by reading things that I’m not directly interested in, sometimes grinding through articles that I find boring.
Ars Technica does a great job of covering a multitude of topics while making them interesting even if I know nothing about them. Check them out: arstechnica.com
Instead of scrolling on social media, try going directly to a website’s homepage and reading all the articles. You’ll learn a lot and maybe find something you didn’t know you were interested in!

Perhaps this comment? OP, you insulted their intelligence. That’s probably the cause of the downvotes.
When you take the ASVAB and outscore my 97th percentile, or earn a graduate degree in a STEM field, I might take your insult to heart. As of now, you don’t strike me as very intelligent, or very polite.

Let’s not scar children to teach them lessons. I’m sure there’s a better way to teach a kid about interest besides getting a loan from McDonald’s.

- Comment on Annoyingly similar buttons with very different functions 4 weeks ago:
Yeah, the circular arrows convey ‘reset’ to me, but the stopwatch icon is ambiguous. Two buttons are visible inside the stopwatch icon, making it unclear what it will do. It should either use the word ‘lap’ or use a less ambiguous symbol like a checkered flag (finish line).

- Comment on Is there a more politically and ideologically diverse alternative for Lemmy? 4 weeks ago:
Personally, I’ve found a fairly wide breadth of viewpoints on Lemmy. Perhaps what you’re experiencing is the stress that diversity brings? It’s a well-known effect of engaging with different viewpoints.
As my counselor keeps trying to get me to do: sit with your discomfort for a few minutes before reacting or taking any action. Think about your feelings and where they’re coming from.
Social science research suggests that people tend to react with anger and irritation when confronted about their biases—particularly when those biases are accurately labeled as such. Although such interactions may be unpleasant, they also tend to lead to behavioral change, and so should be welcomed as opportunities for growth. Bias is a measurable condition, but it is not a permanent one, on either the individual or the organizational level. By acknowledging it we can counter it, expanding our pool of potential collaborators and improving financial performance.

People are capable of echolocation too. They must be Battleship masters.
Despite the limitations, Daniel Kish shows that his ‘FlashSonar’ is actually, in some cases, far more effective than the visual input that we receive. His method of echolocation grants him a three hundred and sixty degree view of his environment, with it working almost as well behind him as it does in front. He can ‘see’ around corners and the sound also works through surfaces- it is, in a way, almost like having X-Ray vision.

I found it! It’s called The Last Book in the Universe. goodreads.com/…/924194.The_Last_Book_in_the_Unive…
This is the line that grabbed me.
Nobody around here reads anymore. Why bother, when you can just shoot all the images and excitement straight into your brain? I’ve heard of books, but they were long before I was born, in the backtimes before the Big Shake…
- Comment on Anon is in love 4 weeks ago:
I remember reading this book as a kid about a post-apocalyptic world. In it, people found relief from these machines that would inject them with some sort of drug. The drug would cause them to have intense visualizations of whatever they wanted to see and they got to feel that experience for a limited time. Of course, it wouldn’t last so people got addicted and wasted away.
It was an intense read for me at the time. I can’t remember the name of the book and I’d love to read it again. There was something about a utopian city that the kid in the book was trying to get to, if that helps anyone identify it.
