- Comment on ‘The Marvels’ Meltdown: Disney MCU Seeing Lowest B.O. Opening Ever At $47M+ 1 year ago:
Agreed. One of the tropes I like in OPM is that he's never called to any of the fights and only shows up for the final fight. Until then all of his friends and colleagues are fighting for their lives. They kind of did that a little with Endgame, which was a really badass moment for Captain Marvel imo.
Maybe they could go more towards the other trope of being so powerful they're bored, but that would be quite a bit against the grain for Captain Marvel's character.
I think in general audiences are just bored with the all powerful, strong moral backbone super hero. That's why OPM, The Boys, and Invincible are popular.

I saw the movie with my kids and they really enjoyed, but I completely agree with you on all points. I stay up with all MCU releases because I enjoy them, but Captain Marvel has the same problem DC has with Superman: they're virtually invincible. There's no real physical struggle and therefore the fights are just eye candy with nothing really on the line.
So now the writers have to figure out how to make them vulnerable and it's always personal moral conflict or relationship challenges. Those can work if the writing is actually deep and developed, but not when the core expectation from audience is action and explosions. There's just not the time to develop the story.
- Comment on Archer | S14 Finale Event - Into The Cold | FX 1 year ago:
I watch/listen to Archer when I'm going to sleep. The coma seasons grew on me. A lot of great recurring jokes and references.
I will say this last season was absolutely the best of the post coma seasons. I don't know if Adam Reed was more engaged since it was the last season (he had stepped back after the coma seasons) or if they just took more time to refine the episodes and jokes, but it just felt like everything clicked. Kind of made me sad it was the last season, but great that we're getting a special finale!

It used to be good. They went downhill at some point in the last 5-10 years. Their bread sticks always taste like store bought now and they got rid of my favorite meal (the steak gorgonzola Alfredo).
- Comment on People who work from home all the time ‘cut emissions by 54%’ against those in office 1 year ago:
This article talks specifically about energy usage, not consumption of products. Work from home likely wouldn't have an impact in consumed goods.
I'm a WFH employee, and my company has no plans to change it. I'm all for WFH. I brought up the issue of 100 companies producing 70% of greenhouse gases because to me this article lines up with the idea of us reducing our individual carbon footprint, which we've found out in the last few years was just a coordinated effort by the fossil fuel industry to deflect their responsibility to us.
All of these efforts are good. WFH is good, renewable energies are good, EVs are debatable (depending on where you stand on how the rare materials needed for the batteries are sourced) but overall better than gas and diesel. But at the end of the day, if your tub is overflowing you need to turn off the tap first before you pick up the mop.

Something like 70% of greenhouse gasses are produced by 100 companies globally. This is like using a cup to empty an Olympic sized pool: yes, it does something, but not enough.
We need to maintain focus on the big produces and affect change there first and foremost.
- Comment on Next Time You Watch A Film, Think About The Props 1 year ago:
Adam Savage's Tested Youtube channel is doing a series of videos right now on background props (any and all types of paper products, fake money, grocery items, etc). Apparently, up until recently, 1 company - Earl Hayes Press - has been responsible for production of these process for every major film for the past 100 years. The videos are really interesting if you're into that kind of stuff.
Here's the first video in the series: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0TS6x8dK2u0
- Comment on ‘Futurama’ Review: New Episodes on Hulu Are Fun Fan Service, but Not Much More (And That’s OK) 1 year ago:
I watched it last night. You hit the nail on the head - it was just like the first episode after the other reboots. Not a bad thing, and I enjoyed it. Still felt like Futurama and the writers continue to respect the continuity of previous seasons, which is something I always appreciate.
