Close, comfortable shave. I think this will be my last with the Varukh. Overall I enjoyed this razor, it’s efficiency, and the light weight, but I doubt I’d pick one up for myself. Slants just don’t spark much thrill for me right now.
- Comment on Tuesday SOTD Thread, January 27th, 2026 (#959) 19 hours ago:
Yeah, they might just not be a good fit for me. They’re certainly very efficient, but I don’t find they provide me with any benefit over my other DE/SE razors.
- Comment on Sunday SOTD Thread, January 25th, 2026 (#957) 1 day ago:
Interesting. I think I’ve been using light pressure – what would a rounded edge feel like while shaving?
I think I need to start by picking up a finishing stone so that I can try to touch up my own edges. I’d hate to have to send my razors out every 20-40 shaves for a full rehone… Though I guess that could help keep you busy! 😄

Close two pass non-complementary non-dickhole shave. Pretty good!
I’m still not crazy about slants. It feels a bit to me like overcomplicating something that’s already sufficient and simple enough. I guess the point is blade rigidity? I’m not sure I buy it.

Another super close three-pass shave with the Varukh. This thing is certainly efficient.

I have an AP Shave Co Silksmoke synthetic brush that I’d be happy to give you if you’re CONUS. It’s nice, I just don’t really use it much.
Lmk if you’re interested.
- Comment on Sunday SOTD Thread, January 25th, 2026 (#957) 3 days ago:
Yeah I was also wondering that.
How often do you typically touch up your edges? How often do you do a full rehone?
I was hoping that a straight edge would last for quite some time as long as I strop regularly. Is this wishful thinking?

This razor, which is part of a passaround organized on the r/ws discord, arrived with me yesterday. Initial impressions are good – extremely efficient while remaining comfortable. I had reservations about the razor head size, since it’s quite a bit bulkier than other DE razor heads that I enjoy, but the geometry does a lot to keep the size out of the way. I also found it basically effortless to find the correct shave angle.
Overall this was an extremely close shave with no irritation. More research needed, but so far I like this razor much more than expected. Not a fan of the color though, that’s for sure.
Happy Friday!

Super close shave with the MM24, lots of buttering toast audio feedback this morning.
I’m still working on this tub kill. I doubt I’ll be able to get through it by the end of the month and the next iteration of Atlas Shaves, but I’m going to try!
The Rambler and goste play nicely together, I smell great.

For this month’s installment of BVWSC we’re shaving with good ol’ Tabac, since the elected soap didn’t make it this month.
There’s never a bad day to shave with Tabac though. Easy, slick lather with great performance and that stank. I’m a fan.

@walden@wetshav.ing inspired me to grab my Damaskeene this morning. This thing shaves great. It’s probably my mildest GEM razor, but still gives a very close shave if I mind my angles.
OCBP worked nicely with Clubman, and Arance Mandarini feels great on a sunny California morning.
Have a great day!

Oh, that’s interesting! I wouldn’t think that different razors of the same time would differ, but I suppose manufacturing was a little less sophisticated back then.
I’ve also heard that the open comb is the milder of the two, which surprised me.

Two close and comfortable passes with the ERN, plus some clean up on my neck with a Flying Wing.
Some fruity post shave stuff fit well with the relatively warm weather we’ve been getting in California recently. Just lovely.

Reasonably comfortable shave, with a little irritation after the ATG pass.
Also got a toner kill today after 126 shaves plus some random usage when I wanted to give myself a spritz outside of shaving. I already have a backup bottle of this stuff that I plan to start using tomorrow. It works very well for my skin, I’m not sure I’ll ever go back to using a balm.
Bless a three day weekend!

I still love Roam Two. It might be my favorite scent in wetshaving, though I do need to be in the right mood for it.
It reminds me of living in the high desert. Just beautiful, and the veggiebus lather is always great.
