One time single payment. If I were in such a financial position that I need to pay in installments, I’d either just (a) get a cheaper laptop, or (b) just postpone it for a few months, since phones are essentially replacing most of the functions of a computer, and its more of a “want” than a “need” (for watching tv shows and movies and maybe some light gaming), phone screen is too small, but if money is an issue, I’d skip it and begrudgingly watch on my tiny phone screen lol.

On the internet, nobody knows you’re a dog.
Are you really the human? Or the dog pretending to be the human? 🧐

That means BestBuy effectively gets a $700+ dollars interest free loan from me for a few months, since courts take months.

I might have to, ugh. But at least I tried dealing with BestBuy first so now the cops can’t just say “civil matter” and tell me to get out.
Its a last resort for me, I wouldn’t go to the police as a first option. I try to exhaust other options first.

I had a bad experience with the police with a, in my view, an unjustified arrest a few years ago. Not to mention, cops didn’t do anything when someone strong-arm robbed my mother. Nor when someone stole her identity, even when she has a possible address of the perp and a phone number. Nor when that time someone was banging on my door in the middle of the night, either harassing us, or potentially trying to break in (my parents run a small bussiness, so perhaps it’s someone with a grudge that found our address), I called the police and those people banging on my door left right before the police came, possibly because they saw the cops coming, I had a video of them sitting on my doorsteps for half an hour, trying to peek in the house, through the mail slot and the windows, and just aggressively banging on the door every few minutes. Its not soliciting either, they didn’t have a clipboard or anything like that. So anyways, they before the police came. I told the officers what happened, I said I had a video. My whole family was home and they also explained the same thing. The cops just said something along the lines of kparaphrased): “So they didn’t break in right?” and wouldn’t even take the videos we have to just store in it their database for future references. Like I wasn’t even asking them to investigate, just to record it into the police records. They wouldn’t care. They said we shouldn’t have called because “no crime have occured”. I mean, like: two complete strangers stood outside my house in the middle of the night and banged on the door for half an hour that’s fucking harassment. I have a video, and they won’t even take it.
So I ended up just saying “Sorry to bother y’all, have a good rest of the night” so I don’t get shot, but deep inside, I just felt like shit for even bothering to call. Like good thing they didn’t actually try to break in, but what if they had?
And can I mention how they took like 30 minutes to respond to a possible home invasion? (well I know they didn’t end up breaking in, but they could have)
So after all this, seeing someone in police uniform gives me PTSD (not literally ptsd, but you know what I’m saying). In my city, there are no “online reports” yet, I have to go to a police station or call for them to send an officer to take the report. Nah fam, that’s just gonna be “it’s a civil matter, please don’t bother us again”. Besides, I never even obtained possession of the item, it arrived on a neighbor’s doorsteps very briefly, and never really left the posession of the driver. So it’s really the driver stealing from Doordash, Doordash failing to fullfill their agreement with BestBuy, and BestBuy failing to fullfill their agreement with me.
I would probably have to actually try talk to the police if the Bank fucks with me. But until then, I’m trying to minimize police contact as much as possible given the um… recent unstable political situation here in the US.
If I got robbed in ths street, that’s a different story. The police would probably at least file the report. But not getting a package? The cops would laught in my face and tell me to contact the merchant and/or the financial institutions first.

But it still took me 9 months of fighting with the store to get a refund and I was accused by the manager of creating a “loss issue.”
9 months?
I mean, does your country have strong customer protections? I know some countries don’t and you’d have to deal with the merchant. But if your country does have consumer protections, you probably should’ve filed a dispute, because they have to be filed within 60 days in the banks I’ve used, so I would not have waited that long because that’s kinda just gambling on the store playing nice.

have an order arriving today from Best Buy! It’s being handled by DoorDash… 🤞
OMG you need to give us an update on if it arrives. I hope you have better luck, if not, you could alway make another post on this comm 😉

- Comment on How often do thieves (and identity thieves) actually get caught and served justice? Are there actual examples of law enforcement actually doing anything? (Because I think most cops are just lazy) 2 weeks ago:
Also is it “justice” to put someone in jail? Let’s say there’s no way to return what was stolen (money spent, property sold/destroyed etc). It certainly doesn’t stop them from doing more crime
Tbh I kinda just gave up on trying to have to deal with cops. A driver stole my laptop that he was supposed to deliver, I just simply call the store (BestBuy) and told them I never got it, if the corporations want to deal with that thieving scumbag of a driver, its their problem, I just want my money back (or just chargeback if they refuse to refund), I don’t feel like wasting time with cops that will do nothing anyways, especially if the refund happens, then I would technically not be out anything (besides wasting a bunch of time).
It’s BestBuy’s fault for using something as sketchy as DoorDash.

- Comment on Bestbuy decided to use fucking **DOORDASH** to deliver my order, I couldn't cancel it. Today I was supposed to get it, and I saw the driver stealing the package after marking it as delivered. 2 weeks ago:
I’m not sure if that’s even “in-store”, the Doordash map shows the package originally from a warehouse like in a different state 3 hours away (on June 18, one day after ordering), then they moved it overnight (late night of June 18 / early morning of June 19) to a different warehouse 2 hours away, then June 19 they sent a driver to pick it up, bring it to my house, and promptly stole it.
They could’ve just used UPS!

Then it’s just a question of “how bad is the crime actually on this commute?”
Yes this is what I afraid of. Some creepy guy hanging around the mall parking lot, seeing me, a not-so-tough looking young man with a backpack of stuff walking out of an electronic store, then waiting at a bus stop. I’m likely gonna get mugged. (Maybe I’m just being paranoid?)
A few year ago, my mom was about to deposit some money (like few hundreds, its after a holiday season where money/gift exchanges are common) to a nearby bank like 10-15 minute walk away, and someone just strong-armed grabbed her purse that also had her phone in it. The cops were all like “we’re gonna do an investigation”, I never heard about the perp getting caught.
At least if a package is stolen, you have some consumer protections, especially when the thief is the driver themselves. Getting mugged could end up with you being in the hospital + PTSD from the whole ordeal.

Ironically, I never had a “porch pirate”, my neighborhood is pretty chill with that, its not even a rich neighborhood, everyone here is working class. The driver, however, picked up the order from a warehouse like 2 hours away, so I’m assuming he’s not from my city. I had more drivers themselves stealing shit than just random people walking. My neighbor leaves like 5 packages on their doorsteps and didn’t come home til like 2 days later (idk where they went tbh, I don’t really talk to them), the packages were still there. They have packages on their doorsteps like few hours at a time every week, never seen anyone steal it. Maybe because its within sight of my cameras? But like, that didn’t deter that guy that stole my stuff earlier, and judging from the news, thiefs don’t seem to care if there’s a camera, they steal it anyways I guess my neighbood is just that good with not touching other people’s stuff?

What I mean is, declining a lot of offers will not (if they obey their own rules, that is) lead to a deactivation. Getting less offers is the equialent of your boss (at a traditional employment) randomly say “hey btw, your pay for tomorrow will be halved”, would you still go to work tomorrow? If you are desparate, maybe, but my point is, at some point, you have to stand up for your self. If you get paid $10/hour, for example, and your just barely have enough to survive, are you gonna work your usual 9-5 shit when you get paid $5/hour for a day?
I’m not blaming drivers, not blaming customers either. Doordash should just outright charge a delivery fee that goes to the driver, instead of this “tipping” BS that confuses both the customer and the drivers, because the vast majority of customers just assumes the drivers get paid like in traditional employment, therefore, believes they don’t need to (customarily) tip. The result is, drivers lashing out at customers, when its really Doordash’s fault for misleading everyone.

Also file a police report and let the police identify the thief from video.
Not clear enough to identify. Also, cops are highly unlikely to do anything especially if the refund happens and theb I techically wouldn’t be out of pocket for anything (besides the time wasted and mental energy drained on this issue).

Still, you should hassle the corpos, but don’t forget that the driver is the real criminal here.
Honestly, I put 50% blame on the thief, 50% blame on Bestbuy. Theft from your fellow working class people is fucked up, but BestBuy using shady delivery services is also unacceptable.

There was no option at all. Besides, this isn’t a food delivery (where the pay is shit). You can check on youtube, the payout for package delivery averages from $20-$25 per hour (well, they don’t get health benefits like with traditional employment), total payout is shown before they accept, they could’ve just declined.

Its not a food delivery, you shouldn’t need to tip, they had too high of an expectation. I searched up some youtube videos, they get an average of $20-$25 an hour if completed within the estimated time. Its similar to Amazon Flex, they get paid real money (the only dowside is, they are considered “independent contractors” therefore no healthcare and other benefits, but otherwise, it pays pretty much like a normal job). In contrast, for food delivery, base pay is $2.5 and you should tip like $5 minimum + $1 per mile distance because otherwise they wouldn’t have even minimum wage (or just don’t use the service). When they accept an offer, they can already see the estimated total payout, if they don’t like the amount (eg: if someone didn’t tip for food deliver), they should have just declined it, there is no penalty for rejecting an offer (there is a penalty for accepting, then not completing the order). They saw the whole payout for X number of packages, they shouldn’t have accepted if they didn’t like it. (Not blaming the drivers btw, just saying they should stand up for themselves and not let Doordash bully them)

The thing is, the only options I got was same-day for $9.99, or “tomorrow” for free, no other options.
Guess what, the “tomorrow” was actually 2 days later, and they still didn’t bother just using UPS.

Amazon does that, but then I’m not sure if I can trust if amazon doesn’t just sell something returned after getting used as “new”.
Manufacturer’s websites also doesn’t have a lot of discounts like Bestbuy or Amazon has.
Not sure what place to get stuff from now. Or do I have to bother asking a relative to drive me to a local BestBuy.

then you gain the extra potential illegal action due to forgery. so its a game of risk management for the drivers.
I think you are overestimating how much cops actually care. Most likely, one of these companies just files an insurance claim and that’s it. Maybe if the delivery person does it often they’ll get fired, but I haven’t seen anyone actually going to prison.

A lot of companies have moved towards using Uber or Doordash for same day deliveries.
Pizza places, especially the chain pizzas places, all use Doordash now 😓. I think Dominos is the only one left near me that still has in-store drivers.
I don’t like buying stuff from Amazon, but they’re the only company I’d trust for same-day at the moment. They directly employ the delivery drivers (via Amazon Flex) so you don’t end up with issues where Doordash and Best Buy blame each other and neither takes full responsibility.
I don’t exactly “trust” amazon either, they deliver to the wrong addess all the time. But for expensive stuff, there’s an option to require a PIN, so no “deliver to the wrong address” or “place at the door and then steal it” shenanigans. That’s why they are slightly less shitty.
Also, my order for Bestbuy wasn’t even “same day”. Order was placed on June 17 for “tomorrow” (aka: June 18), then it got delayed to today, then promptly stolen.

I usually get right after they leave. But this person was clever, he went to the back so nobody would expect him.
Since he didn’t even approach my front door, and drove away, I was confused. I thought it was either (a) it required a signature and they want to skip over it and claim “resident was not there to sign” and then it would be returned and refunded, or (b) he got lost or something.
So, then I was busy checking all the front and back cameras, that’s when I saw him walking away with what appears to be a package.
I thought: Maybe that’s for a different addess because I see Amazon drivers frequently fumbling with packages, I once saw the Amazon guy placed two packages on my doorsteps, then realize one was meant for someone else, then took the extra one back to the van. At first glance at the camera footage, it looks like they stole a package, but really it was someone elses since nothing was missing or stolen from us.
So I assumed that was what was going on, mistaking a different package. There was obstructions so I couldn’t see the neighbors backdoor properly to realize that he left no packages there. I went to get it and it wasn’t there, then it clicked for me, the driver took it.
But since I had to go down a flight of stairs to get to the back door (front door is on floor 1, back door is in basement or I guess floor “-1”), even if I had known at the moment I saw him walking away I wouldn’t be fast enough to catch the guy.
Dude was clever. Since nobody usually leave their house from the back door.
