This is my not-safe-for-Reddit opinion but I thought the S1 Klingons were great, interesting and impressive.

This is so true. Indie games are legitimately better these days. AAA titles can have a good game at their core, but it always feels like you’re fighting with the game itself to enjoy it. From custom launchers and meaningless boring “side quests” and “achievements” to pad them out. Indie games are much better at cutting right to the point of what makes the experience rewarding.

I love the moments when it’s demonstrated that Ferengi can be actually very astute when it comes to diplomacy/interplanetary relations… their culture just has a completely different set of values.
- Comment on Deep Space Nine season 2 appreciation post 1 week ago:
Yeah it’s certainly not the worst series of episodes and as you implied it does some good world building. It just doesn’t do it for me the same way that “why is everyone treating O’Brien like he’s shady?” does.

With Mastodon you can migrate your account, Lemmy can’t migrate (yet). But the difference between Fediverse and commercial platforms is that you can access the same network of content from different instances. With Twitter/Reddit etc. everyone is forced onto a single instance (and a single moderation policy).
- Comment on If you're still on Lemmy... 2 weeks ago:
Lemmy.world is the second largest Lemmy instance, and less than a third of all users. If someone doesn’t like their rules it is trivial for a person to move to an instance who’s ruleset better aligns with their wishes.

It’s entirely possible in the future, since ActivityPub accounts can be “forwarded”. It’s a little clunky but look at Mastodon.
- Comment on If you're still on Lemmy... 2 weeks ago:
The fact that this is being upvoted so much I think demonstrates a big misunderstanding of how the fediverse works.
Nobody owns Lemmy and if a instance does something shitty it costs hardly anything to change instances. Nobody owns the lemmy software, and other softwares like mbin/piefed exist too with the same content.

There is only one Twitter whereas anyone can start “a Lemmy”.
- Comment on If you're still on Lemmy... 2 weeks ago:
It would be weird if a Lemmy instance tried to make itself addictive. Like congrats your users request way more content and it costs 10x more to operate now yay

Sarek felt that he could have demonstrated more affection towards his human wife in a way that was meaningful to her. That is not the same thing as saying that Vulcan culture is unaffectionate.
- Comment on I want to see Vulcan fail 4 weeks ago:
OP is referring to Vulcan culture. Sarek’s displays of affection would probably not be considered “restrained” in a Vulcan-Vulcan relationship.
- Comment on I want to see Vulcan fail 4 weeks ago:
I don’t know if it’s correct to say that Vulcan culture is unaffectionate, just affectionate in the way you prefer. Remember: Spock was played the way he was in the 1960s to demonstrate the distance humans are willing to go to tolerate other cultures, no matter how (literally in this case) alien.
There’s definitely a lot to unpack in suggesting that their culture deserves to “fail” because they do not assimilate (lol) into your culture.

I love the TOS Mudd episodes (and Roger Carmel’s performance) but I have to agree with everything you said.
- Comment on Eight years on, Mastodon stubbornly survives 5 weeks ago:
Mastodon has more of a flat structure and is designed to be more conversational which is why I think it hasn’t caught on amongst celebrities and the pundit class. It’s great for conversation but only so-so at self promotion.

Yeah but I think it’s childish to complain about movies “might as well not existing” if you haven’t even looked for them.
