- Comment on Sale of state-owned assets possible to bring down Tasmanian debt 3 weeks ago:
Article is suggesting that they are looking at their Metro, Lands Title Office, their energy retailer and "Public Trustee’s commercial will, estate and trustee services ". I’m sure that will go well, not public necessities at all.
Reeks of DOGE wannabes for sure. Really hoping the influence doesn’t spread too far, the long-term consequences will only hit once these pollies are relaxing in retirement.

- Comment on GP visits to become free for most under $8.5b Labor [campaign] Medicare promise 5 weeks ago:
Would always be nice for it to be immediate but at the very least the increase in funding starts in the first year. Probably some budget reasons but can’t say I know enough about that to say.

Absolutely. It’s not going to do much on its own but hopefully the first of multiple policies to push thinigs in the right direction.

The longer it takes to take serious action the more its gonna screw people when prices drop
Certainly true and always a difficult topic when it comes to bringing down house prices. It’s what those of us who don’t already own a home need but it’s political suicide to actually attempt to achieve. Home owners are still the majority of voters and also more influencial (and more likely to be donors).
I suppose the other strategy that they may be going for here is keeping price increases below inflation this is still probably not enough to do even that. Can only hope there is more to come.
