Obviously not applicable to bedrooms or private spaces, but it seems pretty normal in Northern-ish Europe, maybe Calvinist-influence countries, not to close curtains in the main living space. There seems to be a strong preference for natural light. And with how rainy or dark the sky can be depending on the time of year, people try to maximize natural lighting.

Where I live, people who close their curtains are treated with suspicion.

Every street is North America is a highway. Straight, level, smooth, and intended for fast driving. The continent has designed streets not safe for human presence, fully supported by the older generations, and now they have the gall to complain about kids sitting indoors all of the time.

Most delivery trucks around here are electric. Most power generation is renewable, importing some nuclear. Some fossil fuels still in the mix, but if the government was smart they would phase it out.

In Europe, the price is mostly paid by the consumer. In America, the government subsidizes the industry to the tune of billions per year, both at the federal and state levels. It makes gullible people think American fuel prices are lower, when in fact it socializes the cost of fuel onto all of society.

My trains, trams, and buses are rarely crowded. Maybe at peak rush hour.
High frequency makes them not crowded. You’re complaining about a poorly designed public transit system, which is probably all you’ve ever encountered.

I struggle to consider it scientific because it bakes in so many fundamental assumptions without questioning them. At least mainstream economics.

The New York Times summed up: here’s some terrible shit. Would you like a delectable chickpea recipe now?
Its core audience doesn’t really care about anything.

Am American. Moved to the Netherlands in July. My salary went down some, and the taxes are higher, but structural differences mean that I’m paying a lot less out of pocket on essentials like healthcare and transportation, which translates into the same, if not better, net take home pay.

Coalition options are complicated.
D66 + GL/PvdA + VVD + CDA is ideally what they want, very broad and centrist, but VVD said they won’t partner with anyone left, and especially not PvdA. Since VVD had better than expected results, they’re keeping their leader, so I expect that promise to stick.
Another route is D66 + all of the left wing parties combined, but getting them all to agree on an agenda led by a centre-left party seems fraught. Also, some of these small left parties have never been in government before and probably don’t have the chops for compromise.
A possibility is D66 + CDA + VVD + JA21, centrists partnering with the right to keep out the left. A tale as old as time! JA21 makes me nervous, basically a more polite version of FvD.
The most likely outcome is a centrist minority government of D66 + CDA + GL/PvdA, and then relying on the left parties or right parties separately to pass the legislation they want based on the topic.
