Instance blocking is just blocking all communities on that instance, unfortunately.
Like Blaze said, you can try Piefed (LW also operates a Piefed instance) or you can use an alternate UI for Lemmy that does hide users from blocked instances. Not sure which do except Tesseract (t.lemmy.world) since I wanted to be able to do the same thing.
The setting for that is under Settings -> Filtering -> Hide Users From Blocked Instances

Seems more like a genuine feature to me.
I don’t know how many requests I’ve seen for Lemmy apps to be able to swipe between posts in the feed.
Dr Cox saying “The answer is ’ lot’”
Seems that’s basically what they’re doing here.
But also, gesture navigation is terrible, I hate it, and always turn on 3-button navigation when I get a new phone anyway.
- Comment on How to unban someone when they have no content? 1 month ago:
Use LW’s Tesseract instance (t.lemmy.world). It will let you directly ban/unban someone.
Find your community and click the community name to bring up the Community modal Image
Click “Ban/Unban User…”
Either enter their actor ID directly or click the link below the field to search for them.
Make sure “Unban” is selected as the action.
- Comment on Is there a lemmy app that you can group communities in a feed? 1 month ago:
Lemmy’s API doesn’t have a direct way to do that, unfortunately.
Tesseract (web-based lemmy app) used to have that before I took it out. After the ranking metrics were removed from the API, it was hard to sort them other than by new/old or by score. When you have a mix of active and inactive communities, it didn’t work great without the ranking metrics being there.
You can still group communities, but only for organizing them or (in the dev branch/next version) applying filter policies to communities in that group.
I may revisit the idea if I can figure out a better way to generate the custom feeds.

A sad two sentence story…of my life lol
- Comment on are we federating with dot world? how to check federation status? 9 months ago:
I had to resolve the post, but it’s there now.
I don’t notice a lot of stuff disappearing during federation with LW, but when I do notice it, I just un-upvote my comment and re-upvote it. Seems to kick it in gear. Never tried that with posts, but might work similarly.

I can see this post from
.world
. Federation looks to be pretty close to in-sync (those activities behind values are only estimates since not necessarily all of those would be bound forlemm.ee
). In my experience, “activities behind” value from.world
less than 500 is as pretty close to fully in sync as you can really get (sometimes it drops lower, but average for me is 200-500). - Comment on My collection, 7 years in the making 1 year ago:
All I can focus on is the TI-92 lol.
I wanted one so badly, but it wasn’t allowed on most tests because of it’s QWERTY keyboard. I had the TI-89 which was basically the same thing but smaller.
