Recently had to go to A&E (ER) in UK.
I was seen by a triage nurse in under 5 minutes. I had a wound on my leg that was only not bleeding due to a tourniquet. Was sent to the waiting room. A women there was complaining they’d been waiting 6 hours for her kid who was running laps of the room.
I was seen in under 20 minutes.
2 hours later as I was on my way home having had my leg stitched up and they were still waiting.

They’re doing this where i live. Mostly grazing land. Cows all summer, then they’re brought in for winter and the whole place becomes a swamp. The farmers are tenants and the landowner sold to developers a few years ago who now want to build 1000s of houses. It only takes looking at the topology and the location of the existing houses to realise why it’s not been done before.

Yeah, i agree. You can cut the benefits bill by reducing payments and making lives worse, or you lift people up so they no longer need them. This seems like an attempt at the latter and I hope it works.

We have 2 mongrels. We had their dna tested to see what breeds they were. It was complete nonsense. They came back with 20+ breeds each, not matching anything like what they look like.
For one of them it flagged his mother, who’s owners had done the same, as a distant relative, 1% match. It also flagged pure breed dogs 1000s of miles away on a different continent as relatives. Possible but very unlikely.

Same here although i cycled. Was about a mile each way. Fairly low traffic. I imagine it’s way more traffic now so that might be part of it.

Our typical rainfall is 80mm/month. So we’re talking an extra 16mm. We had 16mm in one afternoon a couple of weeks ago. It was very heavy rain, but hardly relentless.

We had this with other sounds. Finding a similar sound might not work because they have better hearing than us. Record the turn signal sound with a voice recorder app on your phone. Then play it to the dog but in a safe place for the dog and at very low volume. So low there is no reaction at all. We had to start so low that I couldn’t hear it. Play sound, mark and reward, repeat.
Try to keep sessions short and fun, gradually increase the volume. Don’t try to go too fast or you’ll just have to start over.
You probably can’t with a turn signal but see of you can turn it off or down. Most cars these days it’s not a real sound and is just played through the speakers so there might be a volume setting somewhere. Our dog was also terrified of the beeps the washing machine made when it finished. Would run off to hide under our bed, surprisingly it had volume settings in the manual and i could turn it off completely.

We got our water butts free on local Facebook groups or marketplace. You’re right though, they don’t store a lot. Our outside tap is somehow unmetered so i mostly use that anyway. The water butts ran out weeks ago. No hosepipe bans here (north west).

UK introduced a tax on high sugar drinks a few years ago. Most drinks changed their recipe to be under the threshold and taste weird now. Coca Cola was the only one that didn’t. I just looked and a 24 pack of cans is £15.25 for original where diet and zero are on sale at £8.50. The tax is only about £2 on that though so no idea why it’s so much more.
I pretty much entirely stopped drinking all of them though because I can’t stand the taste now so I guess the tax worked. They are lowering the sugar threshold again in a couple years so I imagine more recipe changes are coming.

Affordable houses are a scam as well. Most people think it means, a house, that is affordable.
Instead it’s usually a shared ownership thing so it’s still stupidly priced but you can buy 25% of it.
New development near us the affordable houses were 25% of a 2 bed semi for £100k.
Then you get to pay £800/month rent on the other 75% while being 100% responsible for all the costs and maintenance.

Supporting people into a better position rather than just giving them money forever is a good thing. As always the devil’s in the details but I’m willing to hold judgement on this one.

My wife claims pip and application is awful in every way. I cannot believe there is anyone that successfully gets pip who should not. I find it much more likely that there are many people who should get it but don’t because their disability prevented them filling in the application.

What are you on about? This is the cost of writing a prescription which is free for humans on the NHS. This isn’t about the price of the drugs which can be anything for pets and £9.90 for humans.

A couple of our locals have now. Haven’t used an app in years. It was always a terrible experience and way more expensive.
One of them you can pay by card on delivery, the driver brings a wireless card terminal. Works great.

Thats a nice way of putting it. I always just thought of it as inserting themselves into things that worked fine before but now they extract margin from everyone involved.
I used to just phone a local business and someone would who worked for them would bring me food. It worked fine.

I used to agree with this until i got private healthcare through my employer. My wife had been waiting 6 months for a referral and had been cancelled twice.
Once we got on the private healthcare figured we might as well use it. Had an appointment 3 days later with the same Dr who had cancelled her twice.
It’s not saving resources for the nhs, it’s extracting them. For all we know, she got cancelled because someone paying privately booked an appointment so got priority.

Presuming this is a residential street im sure the neighbours are happy about 100s of people driving in from surrounding towns every day.
I agree there should be easier paths to compliance but clearly these rules exist for a reason and shouldn’t be ignored.

Yeah, I’d rather they did better in the first place too. But I’m not going to complain when they finally do the right thing. That’s just going to lead to them not changing unpopular policies at all.

I genuinely don’t understand everyone complaining about u-turns. Setting aside that this isn’t really a u-turn, they’re still doing it, just won’t be mandatory.
Would you rather a government that dogmatically sticks to every single idea they have regardless of public opinion, or a government that changes its policies in response to feedback?

Yes, you need the samdboxed Play services and have to gove it a few extra permissions but it works fine after that.
