  Affordable houses are a scam as well. Most people think it means, a house, that is affordable.

  Instead it’s usually a shared ownership thing so it’s still stupidly priced but you can buy 25% of it.

  New development near us the affordable houses were 25% of a 2 bed semi for £100k.

  Then you get to pay £800/month rent on the other 75% while being 100% responsible for all the costs and maintenance.

  My wife claims pip and application is awful in every way. I cannot believe there is anyone that successfully gets pip who should not. I find it much more likely that there are many people who should get it but don’t because their disability prevented them filling in the application.

  What are you on about? This is the cost of writing a prescription which is free for humans on the NHS. This isn’t about the price of the drugs which can be anything for pets and £9.90 for humans.

  The difference is the others don’t require a tropical environment to grow. So you can grow them without any deforestation.

  A couple of our locals have now. Haven’t used an app in years. It was always a terrible experience and way more expensive.

  One of them you can pay by card on delivery, the driver brings a wireless card terminal. Works great.

  Thats a nice way of putting it. I always just thought of it as inserting themselves into things that worked fine before but now they extract margin from everyone involved.

  I used to just phone a local business and someone would who worked for them would bring me food. It worked fine.

  I used to agree with this until i got private healthcare through my employer. My wife had been waiting 6 months for a referral and had been cancelled twice.

  Once we got on the private healthcare figured we might as well use it. Had an appointment 3 days later with the same Dr who had cancelled her twice.

  It’s not saving resources for the nhs, it’s extracting them. For all we know, she got cancelled because someone paying privately booked an appointment so got priority.

  Presuming this is a residential street im sure the neighbours are happy about 100s of people driving in from surrounding towns every day.

  I agree there should be easier paths to compliance but clearly these rules exist for a reason and shouldn’t be ignored.

  Yeah, I’d rather they did better in the first place too. But I’m not going to complain when they finally do the right thing. That’s just going to lead to them not changing unpopular policies at all.

  I genuinely don’t understand everyone complaining about u-turns. Setting aside that this isn’t really a u-turn, they’re still doing it, just won’t be mandatory.

  Would you rather a government that dogmatically sticks to every single idea they have regardless of public opinion, or a government that changes its policies in response to feedback?

  Yes, you need the samdboxed Play services and have to gove it a few extra permissions but it works fine after that.

  Bought a new dryer recently and ended paying more for one that didn’t have internet connectivity. It’s entire operation requires physical presence, why would i need ever need remote access. It’s just something else to go wrong.

  Yeah, people trying to downplay it are as “just a tweet” are also pieces of shit. The way she said it is irrelevant.

  What is relevant is that as she was calling for hotels full of people to set on fire, there were people trying to set hotels on fire.

  She called for people to be murdered, then others attempted it, she got off lightly.

  Now apply this to literally everything else. There’s a tech company inserting itself into every industry that worked fine without them, extracting money from both sides.

  Agree with most of that. Immigration doesn’t need capping though. Firstly it’s not even 2% now, it’s not even 1%. Net migration in 2024 was 0.6%.

  My first job was about 200 people but there was a satellite office with 3 people. Similar story, someone left and they tried to replace him for the same salary. The job ad was for project manager/lead dev/office manager/customer support and user training.

  We also maxed out the limit twice. 10k for us. Went 2k over the first time. Second time is this year so hoping he doesn’t need anything expensive before June. He’s has 2 total hip replacements at £8500 each.

  It’s not really an option for renters, tenants aren’t going to pay for solar panels on someone else’s house and landlords wouldn’t get any benefit.

  I’d rather see public investment in grid installations that can benefit everyone, not just the poorest who were rich enough to buy a house, along with reforming the energy market so pay what the energy actually cost and not as if it was all gas.

  Makes me wonder what we did wrong. We had a 20 person wedding. Immediate relatives only, parents grandparents and siblings plus their partners.

  I paid for everything, including an open bar. We got 1 gift from my wife’s grandparents and that was it.

  I feel like they could have avoided all this argument by saying won’t raise taxes on working people’s earnings, rather than just working people.   Several years ago I was working on water sites and they didn’t even have accurate info about the stuff on their own sites. The head office staff thought they did though. Just the computers did not match reality. Running many of the sites was entirely reliant on the knowledge of site operators who were all about to retire. There was no younger staff being taught anything either.
