- Comment on Plex’s crackdown on free remote streaming access starts this week 1 week ago:
Honestly the others in this comment section would be better to ask about accessing Jellyfin remotely, but I can tell you what I know.
If you go the VPN route, Tailscale is typically recommended, which appears to be free for personal use. It looks like these are the docs for using Tailscale with Jellyfin.
I host a couple services for my family using a reverse proxy (nginx through SWAG), and I have a free domain name with duckdns. This is not as secure as the above tailscale solution, but has worked for me so far. This is likely how I would add Jellyfin to my workflow, since I already have a reverse proxy and domain name.

I don’t run Jellyfin, but I’ve considered it. From what I understand, you have to set up a reverse proxy or something like Tailscale in order to access it remotely. Doing that safely can take a bit of learning, but the only part that could cost money is getting a domain name.
- Comment on What are the demands of the No Kings protests? What's the plan if they win? 1 month ago:
In that metaphor, though, the passengers have agreed to prevent the bus from driving off the cliff. From my experience with the No Kings protests, there isn’t an overarching demand other than “Maybe don’t be so terrible” and a general expression of displeasure.

Also, the most common 3D printing filament is made of the bioplastic polylactic acid, which is typically derived from corn. Whether that is strictly “better” from an environmental perspective is a fair question.

And no discount for the DLC or complete edition
- Comment on Pokémon games have become consistently ugly, and it's alright to wish they weren't 8 months ago:
Arceus was a fun break from the norm, and was even more fun once I played it on ::: spoiler redacted an emulator ::: to remove some of the performance issues my Switch had with it. I’m looking forward to Z-A exclusively because the impression Arceus made (well, and ::: spoiler spoiler mega evolutions ::: ).
I’ve been playing a randomized (and slightly higher level enemy Pokémon) run of Shield after beating it once originally and being quite disappointed, and I’ve enjoyed that pretty thoroughly as well. The return of follower Pokémon in the DLC is something I’ve been asking for since HG/SS.
- Comment on Pokémon games have become consistently ugly, and it's alright to wish they weren't 8 months ago:
That would be more valid here if Pokémon were focused on being fun. As a lifelong fan, modern Pokémon games are typically both ugly and not terribly fun. They make decent “turn off your brain” games, but the quality of game did not go up with the decrease in graphics.
- Comment on Beta Decay is a low-poly dystopian RPG whose grimy cover-shooting shows promise 1 year ago:
From the article, it sounds like cover shooter is an (unfortunately) small portion of what it will be. In fact, it is apparently trying to fit a whole slew of genres, which rarely works out.
- Comment on Ant smell 1 year ago:
That’d be me. Nobody else I know does it, either. I try to explain it and they’re like “yeah, I try to look up at a light to help sneeze” and that’s just not it.
- Comment on Has ethernet become illegitimate? A librarian flipped out after spotting me using ethernet 1 year ago:
If it was a publicly available Ethernet port, it was likely for public use. The fact that she thought it was malicious speaks to ignorance on her part, not yours.

A lot of the tiny critters responsible for decomp are aerobic, though, right? So once the air in the suit ran out they’d die, too.
- Comment on we have a problem 1 year ago:
I wonder what decomp would be like on the Moon. I imagine at worst this dino would be a mummy, but it’d be pretty wild to find a barely rotten T Rex.
