Somehow I just don't believe this. Not to mention, I like to fast. You can make it 5 days no problem. You don't miss a meal and instantly begin to die though the first day can be a little rough if you are used to a high carb diet.
The first day is the worst, then it gets better. You actually get more energy on day 3.
I fasted for 5 days at a job where I would walk 7 miles a night and lift 70 to 100 lbs very regularly. I am not in exceptional physical condition. This was one of my first fasts.
The longest I have gone is 10 ish days.

You can survive 21-30 days without food in warm climate. Cold weather would shorten that.
The point wasn't Russian troops starving. Rather, I wanted to understand the cause. Is this poor planning or intentional ? 2010 reports from Russian Army show that conscripts were fed expired or dog food. Conscripts in S Korean Army had a similar scandal. So, poor planning is possible.
But what if 3 day rations were intentional ? Reports by Ukrainians that could be fake, a Russian platoon surrendering on day 1, several POWs, all said they were lied to and didn't know they were entering a war. Video of Russian APC stranded because drivers were lost and ran out of fuel, talking to UA driver. That's likely real, same happened when Russians invaded Czechoslovakia, my Czech friends tell me.
1/3rd of Russian army is involuntary conscripts. That is FACT you can find from Russian govt, regarding conscription numbers. How to force unwilling men to fight ? Lie to them and send them first, followed by veterans. Ukrainians in front, Russian veterans behind, they cannot run away.
Cannon fodder conscripts are not expected to survive long enough to need more food. Explains 3 day rations, POW reports, Russian mobile crematoriums to hide the real death count.

I'm sticking with my first impression - the story is complete BS.
