Most reddit alternatives suck.
Do you tell people about Wolfballs? Where? I was thinking of mentioning it on Gab and Poa.st, but am not sure yet if you guys get along. lol
some people found it on redditalternatives and being mentioned on other such forums
I think organicly mentioning it like on Gab or other places like you mention is probably the best way, or like linking to it from other places
plus I think there was a thought about posting on reddit to groups at risk of getting banned so that when they get banned they can come over here
Another place we get users is when we get baned or someone from a left wing group post about how terrible we are. That actually brings a lot of people when ever that happens. So if we do something notorious that is a good way to attract users. Posting offensive but true stuff and complaining about it in left wing circles can work.
If you build they will come - i think it takes time to get used to, and i don't see an easy, functioning way to put images like memes on it.
Image uploads on Wolfballs look fine to me, what would you improve?

I don't think this is true any longer. The audience are fat, lazy and self-centered after years of saturation by advertising. They're fucking fetuses, not pioneers.
I have no idea. I could buy some ads I guess if you have any ideas where.
I tell people on reddit, gab, youtube. The problem I have with recruiting on other platforms is you end up bringing readers and not posters. And then some leave after not seeing enough post. Most people are actually not posters but just browse without ever logging in. Any time/place someone is looking for an alternative that is usually a good place to advertise. People who get banned. Also other freespeech platforms like freespeechextremist people are open to using a different site from time to time. saidit and others.
Certain fringe groups are often more open if they can't post elsewhere. Antivaxers, people who want to say elections were stolen, anarchist.
I would like to work on making some wolfballs specific apps to bring more tech type people but that will take a while. I am working on that in the background though. Still in early research stages.
Gab Ads would attract the type of people you want, I think. But one could argue Torba doesn't deserve the money. Also, Torba might not accept the ad contract anyway because he is very insecure about the existence of other free speech platforms. But it is probably worth a shot if you were willing to take the risks.
For my part, I will mention Wolfballs on my nobody Gab account and see if anyone wants to come over.
There are still redditors who are yet to get banned. If anything, you want some outrage about wolfballs to raise its profile, maybe?

Upvote/downvote sites attract losers who are mostly Leftist. That makes sense, since egalitarianism is cope for life failures.
Your audience is on Reddit, but they'll stay on Reddit, because to a loser having to make a new account every six months is just the price of doing business at any site he goes to.
Most normal people avoid the downvote sites because they know these are where fedora people go to be internet bigshots, which means their lives have failed offline.
That's a sick, unhealthy mentality and best avoided.
So my take is: remove the fucking downvotes (stop processing of enqueued events of this type) and you'll go farther.
Then: find a brand. You're a friendly and sensible person, but that doesn't make for a good brand. Slightly unhinged and moderately messianic does.
I would not, in any case, advertise on another free speech site. THEY ALREADY HAVE ONE. I spread this on Fediverse, Gab, and Grindr simply as an alternative to capture Reddit escapees, but I don't think much is going to come of it for anyone else.
Interesting ideas. Without downvotes there isn't a good reason to use Lemmy over Mastodon with groups. One reason ill probably host one if those too. Removing downvoting is actually in the site config and easy to do. People massively complain about sites that do that. And I had them disabled for a while but people complained. People mostly no longer here.
Branding is something I want to work on. We will get there.

The problem with Wolfballs is that you get tagged as libertarian, which means you have an apathetic, selfish audience. They don't do shit. Your average libertarian is a fedora who wants to say how cool he is, but that means he doesn't support anyone else's projects. Sort of like the F/LOSS cross.
Poa.st for example succeeds because it's the free speech site where people say a certain word a lot and it's funny.
Wolfballs should rebrand as a survivalist website to get that fedora stigma of libertarianism out of the picture, or claim that we are genetically aware classical liberals (most people have no idea that this means "libertarian").
I am only part libertarian, and while opposed to national socialism, am a strong ethnat and eugenicist.
So strong that I even scare the Nazis. heh
Do you know why you've been blocked by most of the users on poa.st? Is it because of libertarian comments?
I don't really compare Poast/Gab/Twitter to link aggregators like Reddit/Saidit/Wolfballs. The former is for following personalities; the latter is for following communities. (I personally have a lot of low-IQ fun on Poast and Gab.)
Wolfballs happens to be the only federated link aggregator that allows someone to intelligently mention niggers and kikes. With a libertarian administration/moderation standard, IMO Wolfballs is the true successor to the original reddit model.
In a perfect world, shitlibs and nazi larpers would both inhabit the same discussion platform. (To see a tiny version of this, check out r/PoliticalCompassMemes, the last place on the mainstream internet where nazis and marxies actually talk intelligently to each other).
I appreciate your commentary. We don't ban words and try hard to give the most amount of freedom to discussion as possible. It is super important for the poster and even more so the commenter to be able to express themselves how they see fit.
I don't know why specifically, but generally it was the threads involving why National Socialism is dumb AF and why fundamentalist religion is for retards.
I like poa.st because, since you can say certain words there, no one fears getting zapped by the whims of the whinging crowd.
My own stuff is far more extreme than National Socialism -- I endorse eugenics, ethno-nationalism, monarchy, feudalism, and #satcong -- so I doubt it was "libertarian" commentary that did it more.
