It’s been 24 hours now and while the pain of what hasn’t completely subsided, I’m able to more clearly reflect on this season, and what a season it was. So without further ado:
Thank you to Colorado for bringing a sense of fervor and a tinge of hype to college football that hadn’t been felt in a while.
Thank you to James Madison for balling out in their second season as an FBS program.
Thank you to the red river rivalry, the iron bowl, farmageddon, and the countless other rivalry games that were instant classics.
Thank you to Brian Ferentz with providing us an offense we may never see again, and the excitement of the sickos point tracker that came with it.
Thank you to Mel Tugger and Connor Stallions for off field drama that added to the intrigue.
Thank you to every 133 teams that had us coming back every Saturday and glued to the tv(s).
And on a personal note, thank you to the Washington Huskies for giving all Husky fans belief. For fans like myself that weren’t alive for 1991 and lived through the crapple cup, we believed we could win the natty for the first time in forever. Midway through the 4th quarter, the Huskies had the ball in Michigan territory and we still believed. That belief hasn’t ever been at Husky Stadium in my lifetime. Thank you to Odunze for his dedication by driving home and playing 2 weeks later with broken ribs and a punctured lung. Thank you to DJ for playing week after week even when it was clear that foot was on its last leg. Thank you to Westover who was a stud TE yesterday despite being injured. Thank you to Polk for stepping up when McMillan got injured. Thank you to Penix for providing pure magic even if it ran out half a quarter short.
And one final thank you to my Pac-10/12 brethren. The conference would not have had pac-12 after dark without the desert voodoo and the curse of Pullman. To Oregon kicking Washington’s butt for 12 straight seasons and the rivalry it is today. To games in the Rose Bowl and the late rise of Oregon State. To the newcomers Utah and Colorado that we didn’t get to spend nearly enough time with. To USC for providing 11 other conference members a mutual hate for you. I’ll see you on the other side.
Thank you 2023-24 season, it was a pleasure. I’ll see you all on August 24.
