Obviously “sports talk” has never been a particularly healthy and well-adjusted topic. We often reveal our basest nature when talking about sports (especially when combined with booze).
But I’ve been a huge sports fan now for over 25 years. I remember following early sports blogs and discussion boards back in 2000. ESPN was my MTV back in those days.
I feel like this sub is a good place to bring this up particularly because I think r/CFB actually does better than many sports talk hubs in not giving into pure cynicism and antagonism.
DISCLAIMER: The point that follows will be admittedly very broad and serve as more of a “vibe check” for the old heads around here than anything else.
So, with that said, does anyone else feel like 95% of the comments made about sports these days are more about tearing down a player/coach/team/fanbase than they are actually rooting for whomever that person supports?
It feels like actually being a fan is a lost art. In fact, in a lot of instances, it feels almost like a social faux pas to genuinely cheer for your team on the internet.
