Since the inception of FBS in 1998, every time a Big Ten team has appeared in the national championship it was Ohio state.

Michigan was a co-national champion in 1997. But they will be the first team in the Big Ten other than Ohio state to play in a national championship game. Honestly pretty wild to think about given the pedigree of Michigan.
