I’ve been thinking about the infamous Madden Curse and how many players who appeared on the cover have subsequently had their careers derailed. Now I know the Dr Pepper NIL deals haven’t played out with players suffering catastrophic injuries, but each player has been on what was considered a front runner for the playoffs at the time. Bryce Young coming of age Heisman and returning most of his team from a CFP finals run ends up missing the playoffs all together. Caleb Williams similarly coming off a Heisman on a team many had penciled in for the playoffs due to the belief that they had the most power in a perceived weak division goes 8-5. And not to mention DJ and his Clemson team seemingly having the wheels fall off before they really got started. Anyone else think it’s the college equivalent of the curse?
