At what point do the bowl opt outs impact the bowl system? Does the 12 team playoff make the bowls so completely irrelevant that it doesn’t matter when it comes to the TV contracts and sponsorship deals?
In other words, just like this is the last time an undefeated Power 5 team will be left out (unless they contract the field in the distant future), is this the last time we will see opt outs in any bowl with any “significant” (in quotes, as they are after all just exhibitions) teams such that the opt out materially effect the games promotion such as this years Orange Bowl, where the FSU team is quite literally not even close to the same team that was invited.
