George Pickens’ 4 for 195 against the Bengals last night, is tied with Raymond Berry for the 5th most yards on only 4 catches. The record holder at this catch count is DeSean Jackson who had 210 in a 30-27 Eagles win at Dallas in 2010.
I thought it would be interesting to research and share the single-game record holders (high and low) at each reception total. Here they are:
Now for the fewest yards. Imagine getting negetive yards on 5 receptions!
Some quick observations/comments:
- I haven’t heard of Cloyce Box before this research. He was interesting. He was a two-time pro bowler and a one-time 1st team all-pro. For three straight years with Detroit he averaged over 20 yards per reception. In 1952 he led the league in TD receptions with 15…only only 42 catches. 1 out of every 2.8 receptions went for a TD!
- Two Giants RBs from the past two seasons are on the fewest yards list: Barkley 14 for 80, Breida 7 for 12
- We have one record breaker this year, with Alvin Kamara managing to get only 33 yards on 13 receptions, crushing the previous record set by James Wilder who went 13 for 71 in 1985
- Flipper Anderson’s 336 yards on 15 receptions, is also the record for receiving yards in a game.
- The Falcons in the last 30 years are the opponent on three of the records for most receiving yards.
- The Bucs in the last 25 years are the opponent on three of the records for most receiving yards.
- I was at the Torry Holt game in Atlanta when he went 3 for 189. They lit up the Falcons for more than 40 points in a win.
- As expected, the fewest yards table consists of a lot of RBs
Enjoy!
