Ok, this may incredibly paranoid of me, but....
I'm seeing LOT more cash transactions happening since the pandemic started. In 2019, I would see maybe 1 person out of 10 pay with cash. Now I'm seeing 1 in 10 people pay with a credit card/bank card.
And I've had conversations with many people that were "laid off" because of lock downs. My exterminator just kept working, but took only cash, and wouldn't give receipts. I think many people were probably doing "cash only" business during lockdowns.
And while this is all going down, we suddenly have a "coin shortage" and businesses are forcing people to use credit cards instead of cash. Credit cards, unlike cash transactions, are traceable.
And now we have Biden wanting bank transactions over $600 to be reported by banks.
I think it upset the government they didn't get their fair share of your cash transactions while they locked you down.
I wonder if IRS audits are going to be particularly brutal in 2022.
