Last eastern bloc communist party that kept it's name is now gone.

Since it's establishment in 1921 the Czechoslovak (later Czech) communist party was a strong force in European leftist politics. After WWII it was in charge of Czechoslovakia and ruler as a totalitarian political force. Countless lives lost and decades without human rights for 15 million people were the result.

After 1989 revolution and free elections, it remained a small isolated party voted for mostly by old communists. Until elections on this day, 9th October 2021, 100 years from it's creation, the party failed to pass the minimal limit of 5% of votes to get into the parliament, received only 3.6%.

The communist party leadership resigned even before the votes were all counted.

The second dominant leftist party, Czech Social Democratic Party, recently the most powerful in the parliament, also failed, received only 4.6% it is now out of the parliament. Czech Social Democracy was a political force since the late 19th century, their last Prime Minister was in office until 2017.
