It’s snowing all over the Swiss mountains, and this weekend, snow is supposed to come down all the way to us in Lausanne so it’s time to break out the Eigengrau. This scent immediately transports me to the wintery forests in the Valais, where I spent most of my winter breaks and school ski camps in my teens and twenties. Where Eigengrau is a stark exercise in realism, SBS’ Winter Break is the romantic interpretation with its chocolate and mint added to the wood.
Busy day today and I didn’t get to post my morning shave until now.
I tend to think that the discussions about the relative merits of different soap bases are pointless and that all the artisan soaps give super slick lather if you put in the effort to learn to dial them in. And then, every time I use the sheep base, I hop over to the other side if this argument because wow this base is slick and easy to use 😅
Varen and Fougère Classique unsurprisingly go well together, and Fleur de France as an honorary, non-green Fougère rounds out the combo and gives it an airy happy aspect otherwise dominated my the combined heavy stank of the soap and splash.

Floral Friday. You can’t go wrong with Y/Z/P. What an amazing scent! And, of course, the Milksteak soap base is a top performer.
I am fortunate to have a Fili 12, 13, and 14. All of them are great shavers. The 12 is the sports car of the bunch. It is very light and maneuverable, and requires that I use pressure to provide the weight behind the edge that the other razors have.
