National Union of Journalists responds to government’s consultation

The government wants to encourage social media platforms to promote quality journalist instead of bullshit.

The union says online misinformation, driven largely on social media, is a growing problem that needs to be addressed.

However, the NUJ warned that if these plans are to go ahead, the state must not be the arbiter of what is and what isn’t “trustworthy” as this would be a clear conflict of interest that could allow any government to shut down criticism and scrutiny.
