- head to head apparently only matters if it’s recent? Recency bias is a bit of a logical fallacy, but the argument how a team is playing now is more relevant than how they played week 2 is, imo, a valid one. Look at Ohio state in 2014 who lost to 6-6 Virginia tech then proceeded to beat the sec champion and pac 12 champ to win the title.
- would Alabama struggling against auburn or Georgia struggling against Georgia tech come into play? The ideal for sec fans is that both make it of course. But what if both play poorly the week before, and fsu/Washington both run the table. Do people think the big ten champ or an undefeated P5 will be left out in place of a second sec team?
- if head to head doesn’t matter, shouldn’t where they played the game at least matter? Imagine team A at home losing by 10 at home and team b losing on a neutral site by a field goal with time expiring. The latter is quite clearly better.
- Texas should get in with a ooc win over Alabama and a big xii title. Will the committee choose to ignore head to head and weigh conference titles, while then also citing head to head to justify Alabama going over Georgia? The mental gymnastics here and how it may be a large factor to determine champion makes this sport a lot more like figure skating than the NFL
