The Tank Job of the Week is an award for the FBS team that did the best job of humiliating itself over the weekend. Whether they blew a large lead, choked away a spot in the limelight, lost a game they had absolutely no right losing, or completely screwed everything on a last second blunder, the TJOTW winner sets the gold standard in college football misery.

LAST WEEK: I had a cardiac cath lab last Monday, which is why last week’s TJOTW went up about four hours early. It was fun to sit in the prep area and read the comments coming in. And they were pretty much all for Oklahoma State and their galactic-level disaster against UCF. My cath came back great, which is a lot more than can be said about OSU’s Big 12 hopes after that one. They nearly tried to do it again by going down hard to Houston this week, but got better.

Onto this week, and I have a feeling this one’s going to pretty much be a formality. There’s a few decent options, but only one team got, shall we say, Kill’d this week.

NOTE: For Ease of Counting, please use carats in your vote, like this: . Thank you, and thanks for participating! And HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

HONORABLE MENTIONS

- Stop with all the quarterback injuries!

- It doesn’t quite merit a nomination but holy cow is Miami-FL a dumb football team.

- BYU blew a chance to pull a huge upset and salvage bowl eligibility against OU with a 100 yard pick-6.

- Yeesh Duke, what happened to you?

- Congrats on the bowl Texas State, but good luck doing it now that Butch Jones finally managed to rip out a soul to replace the one Oklahoma ripped out in week 1.

And now, the nominees for Week 12 are…

AUBURN TIGERS (lost to New Mexico State 31-10)

That’s NINE-WIN New Mexico State to you, bub! Does the fact that this is the best Aggie team in *checks notes* ever mitigate this in any way shape or form? No. Not even close. There’s so many numbers I could put here to shine light on this disaster but let’s just say this isn’t even a reverse spreading because they that heavily favored. Maybe it’s a Hugh Freeze thing, considering a heavy underdog NMSU team smacked him into the stone age last year at Liberty too.

COLORADO BUFFALOES (lost to Washington State 56-14)

The Buffs headed up to Pullman to face the spiraling Cougs in what was a bowl eligibility elimination game. But while Coach Prime was running ads for his sunglasses line, the Cougs were running all over the Buffs, racking up 447 yards of offense and two scoop n’ scores in this Friday night slaughter pit.

FRESNO STATE BULLDOGS (lost to New Mexico 25-17)

Good Lord, the Pac-12 has just entered its death throes and the Mountain West is already inheriting the conference’s ability to cannibalize itself into oblivion. One week after getting inexplicably shredded by San Jose State, the Valley is shook again as they go down to a terrible New Mexico team they were favored to beat by three touchdowns.

JAMES MADISON DUKES (lost to Appalachian State 26-23)

Well, at least they don’t have to be worried about the NCAA screwing them out of a NY6 berth now.

NEBRASKA CORNHUSKERS (lost to Wisconsin 24-17)

The Huskers hadn’t won in Madison since 1966 and needed to snap a 9-game losing streak against the Badgers to salvage a bowl eligibility that seemed so much more likely several weeks ago. And they looked to be on their way to doing it, going up 14-0 in the first quarter! Then they turned it over on downs in Wisconsin territory… then missed a 42 yard field goal just before the half… and then spent the second half gaining a whopping 22 yards of offense before finally managing a desperate drive to force overtime. And then they went nowhere in the bonus period and let Wisconsin walk away with their tenth in a row in this series.

USC TROJANS (lost to UCLA 38-20)

Maybe they’re just playing the long game and making damn sure that Chip Kelly is guiding the ship in Pasadena heading into the Big Ten era.

UTAH UTES (lost to Arizona 42-18)

Heading into the game, the big question is what the hell was a game as big as this doing on the Pac-12 network? Well, credit the Utes for doing everything they could to make sure you didn’t really miss anything, going down 28-0 barely a quarter in and getting thoroughly boatraced in the middle of the desert.
