Hello r/CFB! Welcome to the 2023 Big XII Uniform Tracker in Week 11! What another insane week. It looks like this title race is going to come down to the wire. Let’s have a look! In case you are unfamiliar with how my tracker works, I catalog every Big 12 team’s uniform combination week-to-week, and also look at the opposition’s suits. I also compile our future institutions in Arizona, Colorado, Arizona State, and Utah. I provide a few of my thoughts on the game, the uniforms, and a brief history of the series and/or fun facts. Let’s get to it!

I’m u/matte_purple and let’s 3, 2, 1, go!

Texas Tech University Red Raiders at University of Kansas Jayhawks (TTU Wins, 16-13)

TTU: White/White/White (Link: )

KU: Blue/Red/Blue (Link: )

Legend says that after Gino’s Garcia game-winning field goal in the final three seconds, pheasants and chickens throughout the state shed their feathers in one mass instant. Nah, I’m just kidding. Slightly more believable, KU has now lost four straight to Texas Tech. The Red Raiders stormed into Lawrence, went up 10-0 at the half, when KU thundered back in for a 13-13 tie. This was a slug fest, and it wasn’t helped by KU’s 2nd/1st string starting QB Jason Bean going out with a possible head injury. QB Cole Ballard took over, finishing with 9-20, one INT and 124 yds. Texas Tech RB Taj Brooks continued to be a big part of the game plan for the Red Raiders, and his effectiveness may just help TTU to bowl eligibility.

Icy whites for the Red Raiders! This is the first time this look has been worn this season, and it was only sported once last season, against K-State. Aside from my normal gripes about the odd dual-colored chevrons on the shoulders and weird leg stripes (I know these get repetitive, I’m sorry), I like it. I do think that a red facemask would have looked pretty badass here, similar to the helmet worn against Oregon in Week 2. The only time in recent history TTU didn’t wear their famous Double T was in 2014, when Patrick Mahomes was starting QB. Speaking of Mr. Mahomes, the current Chiefs star was credited as being a big part of a new Adidas deal that will begin July 1, 2024, the day after Tech’s contract with Under Armour expires. Under Armour has been with Tech since 2006 and its official supplier since 2009. The new uniforms will be expected to showcase Pat’s own logo as well, a lettermark that looks like a gladiator’s helmet. I am very excited to see what Adidas puts together.

Ehhhhh… I know this next game for KU is important for folks with my flair. I’m trying to stay impartial, I really am, but these just weren’t the move. First, why did you decide to wear primarily red against the Red Raiders? Second, why couldn’t you have worn an overall better combo that still incorporates red with a Blue/Blue/Red look? It still irks me a little that they continue to use an “outdated” jersey when they have their revamped blue jersey. I fully expect we will see new red uniforms next year. These just don’t have the bite I was hoping for. Despite being symmetrical, they just seem disjointed on the screen. I’m very excited to see what they wear in a huge game at the Booth next week against K-State!

Kansas State University Wildcats vs Baylor University Bears (K-State Wins, 59-25)

K-State: Silver/Purple/Silver (Link: )

BU: Green/White/White (Link: )

The Wildcat’s combined point total at home this season is a whopping 272-72. Let me repeat that. K-State has put up 272 points during their 6 home games. Moving on, a large part of that success is due to senior QB Will Howard, who surpassed K-State’s season passing TD record against Baylor in an incredibly dominant fashion. A few rapid fire stats to round out the recap: K-State two defensive touchdowns (1 scoop and score, 1 pick six), four stops on fourth down and two additional fumble pickups from Baylor. Combined that with a garbage time TD for Baylor, and you’ve got a game that only looks slightly respectable for the Waco crew. Baylor is officially in the doldrums at 3-7. They’ll look to strike back against TCU in Ft. Worth, and later against WVU in McLane Stadium.

Not much to say about the old silver and purple of Kansas State. It looks great, and I’m hyped to see those silver lids shine in another night game.

Baylor wore all white with a green lid. It looked fine, nothing special. Like I’ve stated before, these would really benefit from some TV numbers or striping. There’s just so much white to contend with. I will say, I would love to see a White/White/Green, but this combo was at least different to the other away combos worn by the Bears. Variety is the name of the game for BU fans, as they used to be a big name in the college sports fashion world.

Oklahoma State University Cowboys at University of Central Florida Knights (UCF Wins, 45-3)

OSU: Orange/White/Black (Link: )

UCF: White/Blue/Blue (Link: )

“Some people call me the Space Cowboy…” After an incredible Bedlam game, OSU set their sights on a relaxing beach vacation. Only, that wasn’t quite what happened. Instead, the Cowboys faced a UCF team ready to get the job done in Florida’s native weather: rain. Oklahoma State had a fumble and an interception in the first quarter but things only got worse when it started pouring early in the second, when UCF took another pass away. Sure, it slowed to a spit by the end of halftime, but the damage was already done. QB Alan Bowman threw one more INT in the third quarter. Adding to the injury, Star RB Ollie Gordon entered the game leading the nation in rushing yards but tallied only 25 yds on 12 carries. That snapped a streak of six straight 100-yd rushing games for the Cowboy RB. It was Gordon’s fewest rushing yards in a game since the Sept. 16 loss to South Alabama. Of course, we can’t not talk about the UCF offense. RB R.J Harvey rushed for 206 yds and threeTDs, including a 92-yd score in the third quarter following the Knights’ fourth takeaway of the game. UCF’s win over No. 15 Oklahoma State represented the highest-ranked regular season win for the Knights since 2009 when they defeated then-No. 13 Houston at home. The win was also HC Gus Malzahn’s 100th career W as a coach. All that on top of a SPACE GAME! Just a quick reminder, UCF has never lost a Space game, and this is only UCF’s second conference win! The Big 12 is crazy as always.

The Citronauts donned some incredible uniforms. I’ll be honest, I was a little bummed when they were first released, as compared to some of the others we’ve seen in the past seven years of Space Games. But as I have researched and compared, these have quickly risen up to the top. The “Canaveral Blue” uniforms have “Space U” in white across the chest. In a nod to the “Reaching New Horizons” theme, the arch on the upper right portion of the digits mirrors the trajectory of rocket launches as seen from the UCF campus. Obviously, the blue represents the endless horizon, the white layer represents clouds in the sky, the silver layer stands for “night glow” from the upper atmosphere’s radiation, and the black represents deep space and mysterious cosmos. The pants have a stripe that shows a rocket blasting from the sky to the stars, while also mimicking a sword in a nod to the usual Knights moniker. The team donned white helmets with the UCF logo on either side. Within said logo are stars, and a similar “Rocket-Sword” graces the back. A chrome facemask and chrome front bumper sticker labeled “321,” with a back bumper labeled “Space U.” The Canaveral Blue is a statement color that could easily work into a regular role. I would not be disappointed. The “Rocket-Sword” should also stay. This uniform was maybe less “detailed” than some other renditions, but the blue, the general simplicity while still being meaningful absolutely puts these over the top.

You wanna know what happened last time we saw this combo? An embarrassing loss to K-State in Manhattan, Kansas 48-0. I was PISSED when we didn’t see an Orange/White/Orange look, as that would have matched excellent against the canaveral blue from UCF. But I quickly grew nervous when I remembered this suit was worn in the Little Apple. I’m not normally one for the “uniform curse,” but I don’t think this combination will ever be worn again. (I may or may not be a little thankful for that). Tri-colors just aren’t it! While I may not like the tri-color, I still LOVE these helmets, and I really like the white uniforms with the orange numbers. Also, I’ll bring up this interesting trend again: last year, we saw 4 brand logos on helmets, 4 Pistol Pete logos on helmets, and 4 varieties of Script Cowboys, plus one throwback logo that doesn’t fit a category. This year we’ve seen 3 brand logo helmets, 3 Pistol Pete logos (one was a throwback), and 4 Cursive Cowboys logo helmets. Will we see the same trends as last year?

University of Cincinnati Bearcats at University of Houston Cougars (UC Wins, 24-14)

UC: Black/White/White (Link: )

UH: Red/Red/Red (Link: )

Cincinnati racked up 204 rushing yds and the Bearcats earned their first Big 12 victory over Houston on Saturday night. This game was not quite the high-flying affair we saw in, say…
