The vast majority of misinformation and falsehoods is not being spread by MSM or russian and chinese bots; they're being spread by your average Joe. Sure, all information has to start somewhere, but the constant barrage of shared tweets and memes that are of complete falsehoods garnering millions of likes is what's ruining countries. If a meme says something that you agree with or makes you feel better about your own poorly thought out political opinions, you share it with a hundred other people, many of whom do the same.
We live in a world where you can share stats showing women and men make approximately the same income when controlled for important factors such as actual hours worked and gain 100 likes or you can share a meme falsely claiming women still make 72% of what men make and gain 1,000,000 likes and feel like the world loves you. This is why society has no place to go but downhill.
