Chalk it up to “only in college football”.
Jim Harbaugh’s attorney, Tom Mars, sent a letter to the Big Ten in response to potential penalties levied under its sportsmanship policy, which was publicized earlier today by Dan Wetzel:
One of Mars’s key points is made at the bottom of page four and at the top of page five, detailing Big Ten Rule 32.2.2© which concern’s the conference’s response to NCAA initiated cases. You can see the read the language in those links.
Interestingly enough, at 3:02am on Tuesday this week, MGoBlog user rym who claims to be an attorney posted the following legal analysis:
The language in this post is essentially verbatim the language that Mars used in his letter, down to the italics emphasizing specific language in the rule. The paragraph following the rule also is nearly identical to rym’s MGoBlog post.
The user of course noted the similarities and is apparently happy to have helped contribute, writing here:
Parts of pages 4 and 5 of Mars’ letter are plagiarized verbatim from my diary post the other day, right on down to the language I italicized in B10 Rule 32. No worries — the point of my post was to contribute to the cause, and it appears to have worked!
